This invention relates to improvements in looks and has for one of its objects the provision of a lock that can beused by itself in lieu of a padlock or incombination with the bolt portion of a cylinder lock and operated by a single key to lock a door on both the inside and outside and act as anti-jimmy agent when so used.
Another objectof the invention is to provide a lock having a bar which extends across the meeting point of the door and frame, which bar is freely mounted at one end thereof on an eye bolt or staple secured to the door frame, and provided with a threaded hole or opening at its opposite end, adapted to engage a threaded portion on the cylinder of the lock and draw the said bar against the door when operated by a key in locking direction and to disengage the bar from'the cylinder when operated in opening direction.
A further object of the invention is to provide a lock of this character adapted to be connected to anymake of cylinder lock to lock a door from both sides thereof by the same key and to act asian anti-jimmy ilgelpt to prevent the jimmying'of'the inner oc r I A still further object 'of the invention is to provide an auxiliary outer lock of this nature that can be readily connected to an inner lock'which inner lock may be operated from the inside independently from the said auxiliary lock.
Another object is to produce a device of the character described in which the maximum simplicity of construction and operation is secured.
Other objects and advantages'will appear as the nature of theimprovements is better understood, the inventionconsisting substantially in the novel arrangement and corelation of parts herein fullydescribed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein similar reference characters are used to describe corresponding parts throughout the several views, and then finally pointed out and specifically defined and indicated in the appended claims. a practical embodiment thereof, but the invention is not to be restricted to the exact details of this disclosure, and the latter, therefore, is to be understood from an illustrative, rather than a restrictive standpoint.
The inventive idea involved is capable of receiving a variety of mechanical expres sions, one of which, for the purpose of illustration, is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a fragmentary view of the outside of a door, showing my improved lock in locked position and used independently of any other lock.

Figure 8 is a side view in elevation of the connecting bar which connects the inner and outer looks. I Referring now to the drawings in detail 10 indicates a portion of a door and 11 a por tion of the door frame to which there is secured a plate 12 provided with an 'eyebolt o'r staple 13 from which bolt may be suspended a bar 14 by mean-s of a slot 15 at one end of the said bar. The said barl lis provided at the end opposite to the slot 15 with a threaded hole or opening 16 adapted to engage a threaded portion 17 of a cylinder 18 rotatably mounted in a pin housing 20 which fits into a suitable bore 21 in the door. Threads of various pitches may be used depending upon the natureand size of the lock.
The housing 20 is provided with two sets of holes or openings 22 and 23 provided with pins or tumblers 24 and 25, and springs 26 and 27 pressing the said pins against the cylinder 18 and when the cylinder is in posithrough openings in a plate 34 which abuts the inner surface of the door. The cylinder 18 is maintained 1n the housing 20 by means of a disk or plate 35 abutting the end 36 of.
the housing and secured to the said cylinder by screws 3?. Plates 38 and 39 slidably maintained in the housing 20 prevent the loss or displacement of the pins 24 and 25 and their respective springs 26 and 27 as well as the pins 31. i
In Fig. 4 I have shown my lock in combination with a lock 44 so that the door may be locked on both sides thereof. In this form I employ a connecting bar 45 which fits into a slot 46 and passes through a slot 47 in the disk 35 and extends into a slot 49 in a lever 48 in the lock 44, which lever is adapted to engage and operate the locking bolt mechanism 50 for locking and'unlocking the said lock 44. This lock 44 may be operated from i the inside independently of the outer lock by means of a finger piece 51 in operative engagement with a bolt 52, and from the outside by means of a key inserted into the key slot 53 located in the cylinder 18. It will be seen that due to the fact that I employ a plurality of sets of tumblers, I am enabled to revolve the cylinder and withdraw my key in one half turns, because when the cylinder 18 is revolved one half turn either of the sets oftumblers 24 or 25 will be in communication with the pins 81 and in line with the openings 22 or 23 in the housing 20 in'which position the key canbe inserted andwithdrawn as the tumblers will be free" to be pushed upwardly by the said key against the springs 26 or 27 in the housing.
It will also be seen that 1 may employ various pitch threads on the cylinder 18 and bar 14, and still be enabled to withdrawthe key in fractions of one half turns, the'only difference being that when employing a coarse thread I will have to make fewer of such fractional turns than when a finer thread is employed.
The object of providing two sets of tumblers is to enable the bar 14 to be brought as close as possible to the flange on the housing 20. For trunks comparatively small locks have to be used, and in such cases a comparatively fine thread has to be used, consequently it may be necessary to revolve the cylinder one and a half revolutions to bring the bar 14 close to the housing 20.
The slot 15 provides means to take up any 1 expansion or contraction of the door and also permits the use of different lengths of locks 44 on the inside of the door.
The operation of the lock is as follows:
A key which will properly aline the tumblers, is inserted into the key slot 53, the bar 14 is placed with its opening 16 against the portion '17 otthe cylinder and thes-key -is revolved in locking direction, this revolution ofthe cylinder will cause the bar 14 to be threaded on to the cylinder and simultaneously lock the lock- 44. By revolving the cylinder in the opposite direction the bar will become unthreaded or disengaged from the -cylinder.. When the lock 44 is operated from the inside the outer lock will not be effected.
From the foregoing it-will'ibe'seenthait I have provided. a simple and eflicient-lock adapted to be used separately or; in lCOIELbiIlfl-f'. tion with another look to'lock. a;:door,-from one or both sides thereof.

rotatable cylinder in the'housing, a set .043 key cylinder eXtending'beyond the housing, and a bar adapted to be suspended from the door frame and having a threaded opening to engage the threaded portion on the cylinder for the purpose specified.

In combination with a door lock, an auxiliary key operated cylinder lock, a threaded portion on the cylinder look, a bar adapted to be suspended from the door frame and provided with a threaded opening to engage the threaded portion of the cylinder lock for the purpose specified and a connector between the said locks.
6. A key operated door lock comprising a housing, a cylinder in the housing, a threaded portion on the cylinder, a bar adapted to be suspended from the door frame and having a threaded opening to engage the threaded portion on the cylinder, and means associated with the housing and cylinder whereby the cylinder may be rotated in one half revolutions to withdraw the key.
7 A key operated door lock comprising a housing, a cylinder in the housing, a threaded portion on the cylinder, a bar adapted to be suspended from the door frame and having a threaded opening to engage the threaded portion on the cylinder, and means associated with the housing and cylinder whereby the cylinder may be rotated a fractional-portion of arevolution to locking and unlocking position. 7
8. In combination with a lock, a housing,
a key operated cylinder in the housing, a connector connecting the cylinder and look, a threaded portion on the cylinder and a bar adapted to engage the said threaded portion of the cylinder for the purpose specified.
