REFUSE RECEPTACLE i Application filed August 17, 1929. Serial No. 386,656.

This invention relates to a refuse receptacle in combination with a closure construction such as a storm door of a dwelling.

The principal object of the invention is the provision of a combination of the indicated character whereby refuse may be deposited into the receptacle from the inside of the closure without opening the latter, and therefore without allowing elements of the weath- 1o er, such as rain and snow, to enter a room or apartment of a dwelling.

The nature of the invention and its distinguishing features and advantages .will appear when the following specification is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a vertical section of a storm closure construction, together with a refuse receptacle, its support, and the closure opening and receptacle cover, the parts of the latter being shown in closed positions, the section indicated by the line 11 of Fig. 2.

Fig. 2 is an outside view of the lower part of the closure or storm door and parts associated therewith.

Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 2, but showing the parts of the cover in opened positions.

Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 3,- but show- 30 ing the cover part for the closure or door opening in the closed position, and the cover part for the receptacle in the opened position.

In the illustrated embodiment of the instruction which consists of a frame structure 10 whose opening is controlled by an inner closure member or door 11 and an outer closure member or storm door 12. The door 12 has an opening 13 located centrally thereof near the bottom. A suitable support or holder 14 is fixedly secured to the door 12 directly below the opening 13 therein. The support or holder 14 is adapted to support or hold a refuse receptacle 15.v The receptacle 15 will be of'such size that when placed in the support or holder 1 1 will be in a position to receive refuse from the inside of the door 12 through the opening 13. By reason of the construction of the cover andthe, manner in which it is mounted. or suspended on the door 12 makes it possible to move the parts of the cover by a force applied to the part 16, to

In orde r to hold the. cover part 16 in a closed position, means is provided consisting ofa latch 20 secured to the part 16, and a keeper 21 secured to the door 12, with which out opening the latter, and therefore without the latch 20 cooperates. The latch 20 may be readily disengaged from the keeper to enable the cover partstobe swung or pushed outwardly to the opened position. When the force applied to the part 16 to move the cover parts to the opened position is withdrawn, the cover partswill swing to the closedpositions.- Although the part 16 of the cover is latched, the part 17 may be raised from its closed position, to an opened position, to allow the removal of the receptacle 15, as shown most clearly in Fig. 4., 1 p

From the foregoing it will 'be apparent that refuse may be deposited into the receptacle l5 from the inside ofthe door 12 withallowing elements of the weather, such as rain or snow, to beat into a room or apartment.

It is to be understood that the cover instead of being made of two parts hingedly connected together may consist of onepart of angum lar construction to control both the opening 13 in the door 12 and the receptacle 15 to cover and uncover the latter. I

It is further to be understood that the invention is not restricted to the precise arrangement of parts shown and described, as details of constructionmay be modified and rearranged without departing from the spirit of the invention, the scope of which islimited only by the terms of the appended claims.
