BAUM, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS METAL FRAME AND ANCHOR Application filed October 3, 1928. Serial No. 310,046.
My invention relates to frames for wall openings and particularly to channel-shaped metal members having projections associated therewith for anchoring the plaster, and to means for anchoring the frame relative to a masonry wall.
In the construction and installation of metal frames of the character described, it is necessary to provide means that will insure the certain anchorage of the frame to the adjacent masonry Wall. This is usually accomplished by means of anchors that are embedded in the mortar between adjacent courses of brick or tile. In order to lessen the cost of construction and to eliminate one or more welding operations, I have devised an anchor adapted to be associated with a frame having projections, acting as plaster anchors, struck out from the flanges of the channel, the wall anchors engaging the openings formed in striking out the projections. Y
The invention will be more readily understood by reference to the drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a frame arranged in accordance with my invention, and
Fi g. 2 is a sectional view on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1. j l
In the drawings, I have illustrated an allmetal construe ion comprising a channelshaped member having a'web 10 acting as a jamb, a stop 11 formed out of the metal of the jamb, and flanges 12-13 projecting rearwardly from the web and adapted to lie along side of and snugly fit a masonry wall indicated at 14. Plaster terminal members of generally triangular form having a basel 15, flange 16 and rebent margin 17 are welded to the outer face of the flanges. In order to insure an efficient anchor for the plaster, I prefer to strike out from the flanges 12-13 the bowed projections 18-19 located in spaced relation and preferably staggered as shown. These serve to securely hold the plaster along the face of the flange, the adherence of the plaster to which is not considered sufficient for practical purposes.
The wall anchors, some form of which must be employed in connection with a frame of this character, is preferably constructed of heavy wire, in the form of a loop or bail having legs 20 and rebent or hooked ends 21.l The hooks are so designed that they can readily be projected into the openings formed by striking out the loops 18-7-19, the legs of the anchors being compressed' toward each other sufficiently to permit the entrance'of the hooks into the openings. Due to the practically continuous line of loops from end to end of the frame, an opening for the anchors will be available at each joint in the masonry, if desired. l
Modifications in theform and arrangement of the parts may be'made without departure from the spirit ofmy invention and I do not wish to be limited except as indicated' in the appended claims.V
I claim: 1. In combination a metal frame member of generally channel shape in cross section, the flanges of the channel being adapted to fit against the sides of a masonry wall, plaster anchors struck out of the flanges and projecting laterally outside of the plane of the faces of the flanges, and wall anchors having hooks adapted to engage in the openings formed by striking out the plaster anchors.
2. In combination a metal frame member of generally channel shape in cross section, the flanges of the channelA being adapted to fit against the sides of a masonry wall, loops of metal struck out of the metal of the channel flanges andlying outside of theplane of the faces of the flange, and Wall anchors-having hooks adapted to engage in the openings formed by striking out said loops. i
3. In combination a metal'frame member of generally channel shape in cross section, the flanges of the' channel being adapted to fitV against the sides of a masonry wall, a plaster terminal projecting from the face of a channel flange, and loops struck out from the metaly of the flange and projecting into the space adjacent to the plaster terminal, whereby to anchor the plaster to the flange at a point closely adjacent to said plaster terminal.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my siga VIsaac A. BAUM;A
