This'invention relates to devices for use in dressing'the hair, and hasfor its principal object to provide an improved, simple and efiective device whereby loose ends of hair may be readily formed into a roll, the device according to the invention being especially applicable for dressing hair that has been sliingled or bobbed while it is being allowed to grow to a suficient extent to be put-up 19 in the usual manner.

According to the invention, the improved device comprises a hair slide or the like provided with a clip or like member adapted to engage and hold the loose ends of hair against the inner side of the base member of the slide while the device is turned over one or more times to form the hair into a roll, and pro vided with means adapted to engage at the rear of the roll to maintain the formation thereof. Conveniently the device is in the form of a hair slide or clip having an auxiliary clip member adapted to engage and to hold the loose ends of hair against the inner side of the base member of the slide.

The invention is hereinafter described by way of example with reference to the accompanying diagrammatic drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view in side elevation illustrating one construction of hair-dressing device according to the invention;

In carrying the invention into effect according to one construction and with reference to Figures 1 and 2 of the accompanying diagrammatic drawings, the device may be made in the form of a hair slide having a curved base member 1 to which a similarly curved clip member 2 is hinged as by means of a rivet 3 at one end. For the purpose of engaging the loose ends of hair and holding them to the base member 1 while the device is turned over and over to form a roll, an auxiliary clip member 4 is provided, such clip member 4 conveniently being pivotally con nected to the parts 1, 2 by means of the rivet 3 at one end and being similarly curved. The members 1, 2, 4 preferably are made of cellu- 0 loid, imitation tortoiseshell or like substance and maybe of channeldike formation with the concavity on the inner side to give greater strength. The free ends of the members 1, 2 are fitted with parts 5, 6 respectively of a press-button fastening device.

According to the modification illustrated in Figures .3 and 4, the clip member 2 is formed of bentwire and is hinged at one end to the base member 1 by means 'of a fitting 7 while at the other end it is adapted to. engage a knob or stud 8 fitted to the base member 1 adjacent the end thereof. The auxiliary clip member 4 consists of a flat strip fixed at one end to the base member 1 asby means of a rivet 9. According to a further modification, as illustrated in Figure 5, the auxiliary clip member4 is formed integrally with the base memher 1 bybending an extending part of the latter back upon itself. The free end of the base member 1 may, as shown, have an em tension 10 bent back upon itself to engage the clip members 2, 4. i i

According to a further modification illustrated in Figures 6 and 7, the base memher 1 and clip member 2 are constructed and adapted to be connected in a manner similar to that shown in Figures 8'and 4. The base member l is fitted or provided with a longitudinally extending toothed or serrated inwardly projecting part 12 co-operating with a longitudinal slot 13 in the auxiliary clip member 4 so as to hold the loose ends of hair more securely. The auxiliary clip member 4 is, adjacent its free extremity, formed with a hole or aperture 14 through which: the stud 8 projects for engagement with the respective portion of the wire clip member 2. The stud 8 maybe formed with a flange or shoulder 8a or the like adapted to engage with the member 4 and retain it in-the closed position (so that it grips the ends of hair While rolling the same up Without the necessity of holding the member 4 in place by hand.

In the use of such a device the outer clip member 2 is opened by disengaging the pressbutton or equivalent fastening, and the loose ends of hair are applied between the base member 1 and the auxiliary clip. member to .so that they may be heldwhile the device turned over upwardly to form the hair into a roll.
