A TTORNEY Patented May 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE r max HYTKEN, or RULEVILLE, MISSISSIPPI SEALABLE CONTAINER Application filed April 5, 1930. Serial No. 441,927.
2 and the other set from the other side of This invention relates to a scalable container of bag-like form and has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter Set forth, a container of such class so shaped, that when expanded by the contents thereof and sealed it will provide a package sub-- stantially simulating the appearance of banana. I
A further object of the invention resides in the blank from which the container is' constructed, and with the blank formed from waxed paper corresponding in color to the color of a banana.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts of the blank and container as hereinafter more specifically set forth and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which fall within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views: 7
Figure l is a plan of the blank from which the container is formed, looking toward the inner face of the blank.
Figure 2 is an elevation, looking to the rear of the container after it has been formed and with the container non-sealed and non-expanded. I
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the container when expanded. 1 r c Figure 4 is a longitudinal sectional view of the container when expanded.
Figure 5 is a cross sectional view of the container when expanded.
The container is formed from paper, preferably waxed paper of a color corresponding to the color of a banana, the preferred color being yellow.
With reference to Figure 1, the blank preferably is formed of'yellow waxed paper and includes a front wall forming member 2, a rear wall forming member 3, two sets of spaced folds 4, 5 and a flap 6. One set of folds projects from one side of member member 2. The opposedends of the flaps of each set are oppositely inclined as indicated at 7, 8. At the point of 'mergence of the set of folds 4 with the member 2 the latter is scored from end to end as indicated at 9. At the point of mergence of the set of folds 5 with the member 2 the latter is scored from one end to the other as indicated at 10. The score 9 is disposed upon an arc and the outer edges of the folds 4 are also disposed upon an arc. The score 10 is disposed upon aslight curvature of ogee form. The outer edges of the folds 5 are curved to correspond to the curvature of the score 10. I A
At the point of'mergence of the member 2 with themember 3, a transversely extending. score 11 is provided which corresponds in length to the width of the members 2, 3 at the point of niergence between said members.
One side edge 12 of member 3 is disposed upon an arc and the side edge 13 of such me1nber3 is disposed upon a slight curve of ogee form. The free end edge 14 of fold 3 inclines inwardly from the edge 13 to theedge 12.
At the point of mergence of the flap 6' withthe member 2, a transversely extending score 15 is provided which corresponds in length to the width of the member 2 at the point of mergence thereof with the flap 6; The length of the member 3 corresponds to the distance between'the scores 11, 15 and the score 15 is disposed at an inclination similar to the free end edge 14 of the mem-' ber 3. The fiap6 is of greater width than any "one'of the'folds of the sets 4, 5, The inner faces of each of the folds 4 arev provided throughout with an adhesive sub stance as indicated at 16. Theinner face of the flap 6 has a portion thereof provided score 11.
o 1 p l i 1,304,343
When the container which is referred to enerally at 19 is formed the member 3 is olded upon the inner face of the member 2 and the folds 4, 5 are positioned against the outer face of member 3 and secured thereto. The folds A, 5 are disposed throughout the side marginalportions of the member 3 when the latterfis connected to member 2 by the folds 4, 5. lVhen the member 3 is connected to the member 2, the container appears as is shown in Figure 2.
The sides 20, 21 are provided by the be'nd formed when the folds a, 5 are bent upon the scores 9, 10. The end 22 of the container is provided by the bend when the member lis folded on the member 2 at the The end 23 of the container is provided by the flap 6 whenit is folded upon the member 3 and secured to the outer face of thelatter by the adhesive material 17. The flap 6 is folded on the score 15 and provides the bend 24. The outer face of the container,at the end 22 thereof, may have attachedtherewith at each side thereof, only one slde shown, a label containing suitable V indicia as indicated at 25.
The shape of the rear wall forming member 3 corresponds to the shape of the front wall forming member 2 between the scores 9, 10, l1 and 15,
l/Vhat I claim is: p
'1; A bag blank comprising a front wall tending from the inner end of said front wall forming part, a foldable flap portion projecting from the outer end of the front wall forming part, a set of spaced folds projecting from each side of said front wall forming part, said blank being lengthwise scored at the points of mergence of said sets with said front wall formingpart, one of said scores being of arcua-te curvature and the other of said scores being of ogee curvature, said rear wall forming part having its lengthwise edges conforming in contour to said scores, said. blank being further scored transversely at the point of mergence of said parts and at thepoint of mergence of said portion with said front wall orming part.
2. A container comprising a front portion having one side thereof of arcuate curvature longitudinally and its other side thereof of ogee curvature longitudinally, a rear por- 'tion having one side thereof of arcuate curvature lengthwise and its other side of ogee curvature lengthwise, a closed end, an open end, a flap carried by said front portion and "adapted to be detachably connected to said, rear portion for closing said open end, folds projecting from one side 'ofth'e front portion andadapted to be secured to the rear, portion for closing one side of the container,
and fiap'scarriedby the other 'side'of the front portion and adapted tobe secured" to .part, said scores being of curved contour throughout: said rear wall forming part having its lengthwise edges conforming in contourto said scores, said blank being furtherscored transversely at the point of'in'ergence of said-parts and at the oint. 0f mergence of said portion with-saidfron't wall forming part, the-said rear wall forming part corresponding substantially in area to that of the area of the front wall forming part between said scores.
In testimony whereof, I afiiX my signature hereto.
