SUSPENDERS FOR SOCKS OR THE LIKE ARTCLES OF HOSIERY Filed June 20, 1928 Patented Apr. 21, 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE GERHARD HOHN, F GOSLAR-ON-THE-HABZ, GERMANY sUsPENDnRs Fon. socxs on THE Lrxn ARTICLES or nosrEnY Appucafiun med :rune 2o, 1928, serial No. 287,004, and iny Germany February 25, 192s.
l The present invention relates to suspenders for socks -or the like articles of hosiery.
Suspenders for this purpose are already known in which a pad or thelike support for 5 the securing means is displaceable on the garter band.
The object of the invention is to so construct the displaceable pad of a single strip of leather or similar materia-l that one portion of the Y strip will form a seat for the loop member of the fastener and another portion of the strip will enable to secure a band supporting the knob plate in such a manner as to render easy also the attachment of very long socks. The seat for the loopl member is formed by making one depending endof the pad longer than the other, and by bending this about itself so that the edge can be inserted between the opposite depending end and its own body portion and can then be secured thereto by stitching or the like means.
The knob plate in the improved sock susender is secured to a long strip or band which 1n turn is inserted in a slot in the pad substantially adjacent the upper folded edge of this. It is therefore possible to lead the top edge of the stocking right up to the top edge nearly of the garter. Moreover, as no strain acts upon the knob plate, the separate support for the knob plate allows to use for this purpose a thin band and thus to avoid an onerous thickness of the suspender. n
One form of construction of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings in which:- l
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the sock suspender and Figure 2 is a section on a larger scale along the line A-B in Figure 1.
A support or pad 1 of the sock suspender which is made, according to the invention, of a single piece, vpreferably of leather, is folded over the top edge of a garter 2, whilst the dependent end portions 3k and 4 are rigidly connected together substantially adjacent the bottom edge of the Ygarter band for example by stitching. A11 eye 6 adapted to receive the loop member 5 of clip means for the sock is formed by an extended portion 7 of one end portion 3. This extension 7 is pushed between the ends of the support or i pad and rigidly connected therewith by stitching.`
In order to render easy the attachment of particularly long socks, a knob plate 8 of the clip means is attached to along strip orband `9 secured to the support or pad l near the upper folded edge thereof.
This attachment is carried out as shown in Figure 2 by forcing the free end ofthe strip or band 9, acting as support for the knobV plate 8, into a slot provided in the back portion 4 of the support before folding and stitching together the material used for the support, the end pushed through being itself stitched to this portion of the pad.
I declare that what I claim is A suspender for personal wear comprising Y in combination a garter band, a looped pad displaceable thereon, consisting of a single and having its upper end inserted into the said slot and secured to the inner side of the rear wall of the pad.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specication at Frankfort-onthe-Main, Germany, this 25th day of May,
GERHARD HOHN.
