Description

April 21, 1931. H. K. SMITH 1,802,037
DI S PLAY STAND Filed Oct. 1. 1929 INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Apr. 21, 1931 NITED STATES HERBERT K. SMITHQOF INGLEWOOD, CALIFORNIA DISPLAY STAND Application filed October 1, 1929. Serial No. 396,584.
My invention relates to display stands for articles of jewelry such as wrist watches, rings, etc.
An object of the present invention is to provide a device of this character having a support for holding an article of jewelry in displaying position and means for holding a price tag.
Further the invention provides a device of this character which is formed from a length of sheet metal and which is bent to provide a supporting base and a radially expansible article support upon which a circular or substantially circular article of jewelry is adap ed to be mounted.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a radially expansible jewelry support which will yieldably engage the article received thereon and hold the same in place.
In carrying out these objects, the invention is susceptible of a wide range of modification without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the claimed invention; there being shown in the accompanying drawings for illustrative purposes a preferred and practical form, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective of my improved display device with a wrist watch held thereon the wrist watch being shown in broken lines;
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the device;
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of the same;
Fig. 4 is a modification of the invention and which is particularly adapted in holding a finger ring; and
Fig. 5 is a vertical section of the same.
Referring to the invention in detail a length of metal 5 of uniform width and thickness is provided. This length of metal is bent transversely as at 6 to provide a horizontal base portion 7 and an angularly disposed portion 8 which overlies the base 7. The side edges of the angularly disposed por tion 8 are formed with inturned marginal flan es 9 along its vertical edges to hold a price tag 10.
The opposite end of the length of metal is bent upon itself as indicated at 11 to provide .an angularly disposed extension 12.
In order to hold an article of jewelry such as a wrist watch a split resilient substantially C-shaped supporting member 13 is integrally formed-with the upper end of the extension 12. As disclosed in Fig. 1 the supporting member 13 lies at an oblique angle with respect to the horizontal and extends around the inclined portion 8. The member 13 being 5 resilient it is thereby self-adjusting to the interior of the article on display and thus yieldably engage the article. It will therefore be seen that the article cannot slip clownwardly from the member under the force of supporting member 13 a relatively small split resilient ring 15 is formed with the upper end of the extension 12. Thus a finger ring may be received on the split ring 14 and held in position for display.
An obliquely extending portion 8 extends from the rest 14 and is formed with flanges 9 along its vertical edges for the reception ot a price tag 10.
It will be seen that with both embodiments arm of the invention the article will be supported where it can be readilyviewed and the cost or other data relative thereto ascertained.
What is claimed is: 1. In a display stand, a length of metal bent to provide a substantially horizontal base, and an upstanding portion at one end thereof, means for retaining a tag on such upstanding portlon, and a split resilient article'supporting band formed from the op- W posite end of the length of metal.
2. In a device of the character described, a longitudinal length of metal bent to provide a horizontally extending base and an upstanding inclined portion, the vertical edges of the inclined portion having channel shaped guides formed thereon for the re ception of a price tag, and an article support arising from the rear end of the base.
3. In a device of the class described, a longitudinal length of sheet metal bent to provide a horizontally extending base and an upstandin'g inclined portion, the vertical edges of theinolined portion having channelshaped guides formed thereon for thereception of a tag, and oppositely curved resilient arms formed with the rear end of the base and extending upwardly therefrom.
