Description

C. W. ANDERSON.
CARD HOLDING DEVICE.
'APPLICATIQN FILED MAY 6, 1919.

CARL W. ANDERSON, OF ISHPEMING, MICHIGAN.
CARD-HOLDING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mant), 1920.
Application filed May 6, 1919. Serial No. 295,248.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL W. ANDERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ishpeming, in the county of Marquette and State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Card-Holding Devices, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
My invention relates to card holding devices andis more particularly applicable to those card holding devices which may be readily attached to plates or trays or such other articles holding merchandise in such manner that the display card may be held in a substantially vertical or vertically inclined position. The device has suitable provision so that the card may be held in any one of a plurality of difierent positions. he device is adaptable for use with dishes made of thick or thin material, and having either a straight, rounded or irregular outline. Specifically, the device is intended for displaying description as to flavor, etc., of chocolates on trays usually made of glass for displaying candy.
I will explain my invention more in detail by referring to the 'accompanying'drawing illustrating the same, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a card holding device constructed in accordance with my invention shown in place, and
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line 22 of Fig. 1.
My application herein is based on the disclosure set out in my previous application Serial No. 119,361, filed Sept. 11, 1916, on which Patent No. 1,285,890, was granted to me November 26, 1918, the feature of my present invention being for a modification not claimed in my said prior patent.
The structure of my present invention includes a strip or back portion 1 which has a rectangularly'bent portion 2 at its lower extremity. A clamping finger 3 is suitably riveted to the back portion 1 by the rivets 4. The clamping finger together with the rectangular extension 2 form jaws which grasp any available rim or other portion of a merchandise container such as the tray 5. The elements 2 and 3 are spring-like and thus securely hold the card holder in position. The back portion 1 also has spring clasps 6 punched from the material of the back strip, which spring clasps are designed to hold a display or advertising card 7.
It will be seen from this that the card 7 may be attached at any suitable desirable height at which it is most effective. The back portion 1 has an enlarged top piece 8 so as to form a more thorough backing for the card when it ismounted in the uppermost clasp 6.
From what I have thus described the nature of my invention will be readily clear and what I claim as my invention is:
A card holder of the character described comprising a base strip of resilient metal, said base strip having at its lower extremity a substantially rectangularly bent finger, a second resilient metal strip riveted to the lower portion of the base strip, and having an a-ngularly extending finger, said two fingers at their extremity forming clamping jaws whereby the device may be attached to a plate, and-card supporting claspspunched at different heights throughout the available length of the said base strip for supporting cards, said clasps being on the side of the base strip away from said fingers so that cards held by said clasp will face away from the tray to which the holder is attached.
In witness whereof I hereunto subscribe my name this 29 day of April, A. D. 1919.
CARL W. ANDERSON.
