J. CHASE & H. N. HEMING WA'Y'.
BRACKETS FOR CURTAIN-FIXTURES} No.179,681. Patented J' u1y11,1876'.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
JAMES CHASE AND HENRY N. HEMINGWAY, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT lN BRACKETS FOR CURTAIN-FIXTURES.
specification t'orming part of Letters Patent No. 179,681, dated July 11, 1676; application filed A ril 8, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, JAMES CHASE and HENRY N. HEMINGWAY, both of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Curtain-Fixture Brackets; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and enact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of our improved bracket. Fig. 2 is a' front sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is an obverse view of Fig. 2.
In order to economize in the production of this class of curtain-fixtures, it has been the practice for several years past to form the brackets with an open slot forthe reception of the screw or nail, by which they are secured to the casing. This slot has proved very inefficient in holding the brackets properly in place. The object of this invention is to produce the brackets just as cheaply with the hole as they have heretofore been with the slot. It consists in forming the foot of the bracket with an offset on its face side, around one side of the hole, the other side of the hole being formed by the foot-plate itself.
The hole a constitutes the axial bearing for the spool and ratchet, the latter being indicated by the dotted lines (3, Fig. 1. The
axial pin 61 for the pawl-lever and the footplate f must necessarily be parallel to each other, and at right angles to the body B of the bracket. This renders it impracticable to provide the ordinary foot-platef with a screwhole, 0, without drilling it, which is too expensive to be employed in this class of fixtures.
1 provide this desideratum in the following manner: The foot-plate f is cut away from where it intersects with the legs of the body B, centrally to the hole 0, as shown in Fig. 5, and the raised offset 7', upon which the guard g is formed, is placed upon the face side of the foot. Thus it will be seen that one-half of the screw-hole c is formed in the foot-plate], and coping or opening toward the legs of the body B, and the other half in the offset 1", and opcning in the opposite direction, whereby the bracket may be produced just as cheaply as when made with a slot.
What we claim as our invention is- A curtain-fixture bracket, having its footplate f provided with an offset 4, whereby the bracket may be formed with a screw-hole, 0, without drilling, substantially in the manner and for the purposes set forth.
