Similar letters of reference indicate corre- My invention relates to an improved dinner-pail, with a convenient arrangement of the heating attachment so that it may be readily stored in the pail when carried, and instantly thrown into use for heating up the pail.

The invention consists of a dinner-pail with a recessed bottom and a heating attachment that may be lowered to form a support for the pail, and replaced and stored at'the inside of the pail after use.

. In the drawing, A represents a dinner-pail of round, oval, oblong, or other suitable shape, provided with a folding or rigid top handle, A, and a 'hinged front door, B. A number of cups and trays are suitably arranged within the pail, the trays being preferat the upper part of the cups, and similar supports at the lower part of the pail. The heating attachment 0 is applied to the bottom part of the pail by means of acentral pillar or post, I), with top collar that slides vertically in a perforation of the bottom of the pail. The base, disk, or tray 61 is provided with a lug, 0, near the cenbottom to the inside of the pail, when the lamp-tray is moved close to the bottom of the same, the lug and tray being in this position rigidly locked by a sliding device,f, that is guided in suitable manner along the bottom of the pail and operated by a button, f, from the outside. The lamp-tray d has hinged and spring-acted supports 0, that are arranged symmetrically thereon and folded down on the tray when it is locked to the pail, but which are forced up so as to support the pail when the locking device is released and the lamp-tray lowered. as shown in Fig. 1. The bottom of the pail has apertures g, which admit the {entrance of the lamps when the tray is carried up, the cups in the lower part of the tray being so arranged that the lamps may be stored without interfering with the same,

admitting thereby the compact storage of the heating device at the inside of the pail for carrying the same. Another set of bottom apertures, g, is arranged intermediately between the formcr and below the cups, for the purpose of admitting the direct action of the heat of the lamps on the cups and the heating'ot the air in the pail, so that when the lamps are in position and lighted the eatables in the cups and trays may be quickly and thoroughly heated. Suitable air-holes h at the top of the pail form the outlet of the vapors and odors.

The pail has a neat and compact arrangement, and a better appearance than the common and unsightlydinner-pails in use. It allows the workman to get his dinner or lunch in a warm state, by merely letting the lamp-tray down and lighting the lamps some time before he stops work. When the meal is finished, the tray is replaced, by folding the spring-supports down on the tray, turning the same so that the lamps are below the side openings, sliding it up to the bottom of the pail, and looking it thereto, which is all accomplished in a convenient manner and with little loss of time.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The combination of a dinner-pail with a heating attachment that is' secured to the bottom and adapted to be stored within the pail when carried, and lowered to support the same for heating, substantially in the manner and for the purpose specified.

2. The combination of the bottom of the dinner #pail, having openings for the heating- Farce.

4. The combination of the movable lamptray, having a lug, with the bottom-recessed, and thelocking device of the pail, substantially as specified.
