ATTORNEY.
Patented Mar. 3, 1931 PATENT ori-ICE CHARLES J'. STEWART, 0F MEADVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA CASH RECEPTAGLE Application led October 18, 1929. Serial No. 400,634.
VThis invention relates to a cash receptacle or box for use in connection with the compartmentsof cash drawers and has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter 5 set forth, a receptacle or box capable of being removably ,mounted and held stationary within a compartment of a cash drawer to render such compartment to conform to the new size of currency. Y
F urtherobjects of the invention are to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a removable cash receptacle or box for use in connection with compartment cash drawers for a purpose referred to and which is simple 15 in its construction and arrangement, strong,
durable, thoroughly eiiicient in its use, readily installed with respect to the compartment of a cash drawer, and inexpensive to manufacture.
Vith the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described, and illustrated in the accompanying 25 drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which fall within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a fragmentary view in top plan of a. compartment cash drawer showing the adaptation therewith of a removable cash receptacle or box in accordance with this invention. i
Figure 2 is a section on line 2 2, Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a rear elevation of the receptacle or box.
Figure 4 is a section on line 4 4, Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing in detail 1 denotes a cash drawer which is generally set u up of a series of compartments, and as illustrated but one compartment is shown and which is provided by the partitions 2, 3 and the sides 4 of the drawer 1.
- The cash receptacle or box which is adapted to be removably mounted in the compart- 0 ment 5 of the cash drawer 1 is of rectangular Cil contour and includes a bottom 6, a back wall 7, and a pair of side walls 8, 9. The recep tacle which is referred to generally at 10 has the front thereof Vopen and when the receptacle is mounted in the compartment 5 the front is closed by a front wall 11 of the compartment 5.
Each side wall is formed of two parts of different heights, and one of said parts is indicated at 12 and the other at 13. The part 12 is of materially greater length than part 13 and the'latter is arranged at the rear of part 12 and merges into the back wall 7. The back wall 7 corresponds in height to the heieht of the part 13 of the side walls and said back wall 7 is of less height thanthe height of the side walls of the compartment 5.
The. parts 12 of the side walls of the receptacle or box are of a height to extend and be flush with the top edges of theside walls of the compartment 5 and formed integral with the top edges of the parts 12 of the side Walls of the receptacle or box 10, as well as being co`-extensive with said parts 12 are oppositely disposed, angle-shaped flanges. The flange carried by the part 12 of the wall S is indicated at 14 and the -[iange at the top of the part 12 of the wall 9 is indicated at 15. i
The flanges 14, 15 are adapted to abut the partition 2 and side wall 4 `of drawer 1 when the receptacle or box 10 is mounted in compartment 5.
For the purpose of preventing shifting of the receptacle or box 10 within the compartment 5, the back wall 7 has connected therewith and projectingtherefrom a bow-shaped spring 16 having rounded ends 17 which abut against the partition 3 of the drawer 1. The backwall `7 of the receptacle or box 10 is formed with a pair of vertically disposed slots 18 arranged in opposed spaced relation and through which extends the spring 16.
The spring 16 centrally thereof, is offset as at 19 to provide a semi-circular part and said part extends through the slots 18.
. The size ofthe receptacle orbox 10 is such as. to correspond to the size of the new currency butthe box or receptacle 10 is of such ioo size as -to permit the new style of currency to be conveniently positioned therein; and re` moved therefrom.y w j The spring 16 acts to maintain the forward end of the boX or receptacle 10 against the front 11 of the compartment l whereby the front of the receptacle or box 10 is closed and further thereceptacle is prevented from shifting laterally or lengthwise of the com partment 5. The ianges lli and 15 act to pre# high part'of each side wall and co-VeXtensive with said high part, and resilient means anchored to said back wall and projecting rearf wardly therefrom.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature hereto.
CHARLES J. ASTEWART.
