Description

L. AYA.
SHUT-FORMER. 179501. Patent ed July 4.1876.
WITNESSES lNVENTOR PETERS, PuoTo-muoenwuz. msuumou. my a.
LOUIS AYA, OF WINONA, MINNESOTA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SPOUT-FORMERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 179,501, dated July 4, 1876; application filed April 8, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS AYA, of Winona, in the county of Winona and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and valuable. Improvement in Spout-Formers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part ofthis speci fication, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a perspective view of my spout-former, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view of the same.
This invention has relation to means for producing spouts for coffee-pots and other vessels; and the nature of my invention consists in the employment of a rectangular shell, in combination with a removable rectangular block, provided with a counter-die corresponding with the shape of the spout to be formed, as will be hereinafter explained.
In the annexed drawings, A designates a rectangular box or shell, which may be made solid, and which is adapted to receive a rectangular block, B, which may besecnred in its place in any suitable manner. In this block is formed a counterdie or recess, a, which corresponds in shape to the shape of the spouts to be made, and which is perforatedat x, for a purpose presently explained.
On top of the counter-die block 13 are two flanges, b b, arranged at right angles to each other, which flanges serve as gage-stops for the sheet metal, out of which the spouts are formed.
' At theback of the case A, and at the middle of the width thereof, is a standard, (J, to the upper end of which is pivoted a handlever, G. This lever Ghas pivoted to ita die, J, which is adapted for the counter-die, and which is constructed with. flanges fon its upper edges; also with a stud, m, which, when the die is brought down, will pass through the perforation m, and retain the sheet metal in proper place at the last act of forming the spout.
By my invention flanged spouts can be formed rapidly and perfectly, each spout being pressed in proper shape at one stroke of the die.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In combination with the rectangular shell A of the removable rectangular block B,
having formed therein a counter-die, a, which corresponds to the shape of the spout to be made, substantially as described.
2. The combination of the counter-die at, having perforation 0c, and die J, having retaining-pin 00, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
j In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
' LOUIS AYA.
