This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in vanity cases and the primary object thereof is to provide improved means for removably holding the powder and rouge containing pans in the case, and to also provide means whichcan be easily and quickly operated to enable removal of the pans.

A further object of the invention is to provide a single means for simultaneously hold ing a plurality of pans in the case, which means upon movement to inoperative position allows all of the pans to be removed. A still further object of the invention is to provide holding means which may be operated by use of a coin for the purpose of rotating the holding means into and out of operative position. v

The invention has further and other objects which will be later set forth and manifested in the course of the following description.

In proceeding in accordance with the present invention the case is provided with a body 1 and a top 2 hinged at 3 to the body. The cover is removably held in closed position by means of a latch 4:, the latter having spring tensioning arms 5 at its ends and a finger engaging or operating member 6, the latch operating in a cut out 7 formed in the end wall of an insert 8. The insert engages within the body and is formed with a plurality of integral die-struck compartments 9, 10 and 11, in which the pairs 9, 10, and 11 are removably disposed. The cover is provided with a keeper 4a to engage the latch.

Referring to Figure 4 of the drawings it line 5 5 ofFigwill be seen thatthecompartments for the pans. andconsequently the latter are located so that each pan base portion disposed adacent to a common latchingor'holding device, the lattercomposed of a head 12 diametrically slotted at 13, the slot being of a size to receive a coin such as apenny or dime whereby the head can be rotated. 17, and "18,.which fingers or arms are adapted to engage with and extend over the adjacent top edges of'the rims of the pans. As shown in Figure 5 I0f the drawings the partition 3001. the insert which separates the com- ,partments is slotted at 19 in order to allow each of the latching. fingers 165 17 and 18 to freely move into and out ofengagement with the pans. v

A cover 20 hinged at 21 to the insert is provided. for the pan 11 and is held closed by means of a latch 22. For the purpose of holdinga powder. puff or pad in either oftlie pans 9 or 10, an arm 23 is provided which is hinged at 24 tothe insert and is secured thereto by the shank of the head 12, as shown in F igure 5. i

As shown in Figure ithe several compartments for the pans are provided'with knobs or teats 26; 27 and 28 whicih are adapted to engage over the rims of the pans so as to hold the latter firmly in position in conjunction with the holding member 15.

In operation, referring to Figure i of the drawings. it will. be seen that the member 15 is movable to have its arms 16, 17, and 18 simultaneously projected out of the slots 19 to overlie the rims of the pans thereby simultaneously holding all three of the latter in position, and upon turning of the member 15 to move the arms 16. 17, and 18 out of the slots. the pans may be disengaged from the teats 26. 2'7 and 28, and thereby freely removed from the case. I

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is V 1. In a vanity case, a body having a partition therein dividing same into a series of spaced compartments, removable pans in the compartments, said partition having slots which communicate with the respective compartments, a rotary member located in the space between the compartments and having arms movable into and out of the respective slots to be engaged with and disengaged from the pans, stops in the compartments opposite to the arms to engage the pans, and a head on said member having a slotto receive a coin or the like, whereby to rotate the member.

2. In a vanity case, a body having a par tition therein dividing same into a series of spaced compartments, removable .pans in the compartments, said partition having slots which communicate with the respective compartments, a rotary member located in the space between the compartments and having arms movable into and out of the respective slots to be engaged with and disengaged from the pans, stops in the compartments opposite to'the arms to engage the pans, and means to rotate the member.

In a vanity case, a body having a series of juxtaposed spaced pan-receiving compartments, a rotary member'having a slotted head disposedin the space between the compartments and arms on the member to engage the pans of all of the compartments to simultaneously latch the pans in, and to release same for removal from, the compartments.

In a vanity case, a body having a series of juxtaposed spaced pan-receiving compartments, a rotary member disposed in the space between the compartments and arms on the member to engage the pans of all of the compartments to simultaneously latch the pans in, and to release same for removal, from the compartments. 7

y 5. A vanity case having a series of juxtaposed spaced compartments each having a pan therein, and a single rotary means located in the space between the compartments for releasably and simultaneously latching all of the pans in the compartments.
