LAD'Y'S HAND BAG The present invention relates to improve ments in ladies hand bags, and more particle larly to hand bags of the envelop type.

The main object of the invention is to provide a hand bag of this type with a compart ment disposed exterior-1y of the main bag in which articles habitually used may be held and to which access may be had without having to open the main bag.

Another object of the invention is to mount within the said compartment a plurality of receptacles, and to so combine the same with the closure frame of the said compartment that the said receptacles are swung out from said compartment when said closure frame is shifted to open position, whereby ready access may be had to the articles within said receptacles.

A further object of the invention is to provide a la dys hand bag of the type mentioned which is simple in construction, durable in use and capable of manufacture on a commercial scale, or in other words one which is not so diiiicult to make as to be beyondqthe reasonable cost of such a contrivance.

With these and other objects in view, which will more fully appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the combination, arrangement and construction of parts hereinafter described, pointed out in the appended claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, it being understood that many changes may be made in the size and proportion of the several parts and details of construction within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

taken on line 22 ofFig. 1, the main flap of the bag being folded toward the rear face of the bag; and Fig. 3 is a section similar to the one shown in Fig, 2 with the closure frame swung toward closing position.

In the drawings the numeral 10 indicates the front member and the numeral 11 the back member of a bag, the said elements bemg made of cloth or flexible leather, or other suitable flexible material, they being united along their side edges by gussets 12, to form the main compartment 13 of a hand bag, the said gussets being folded as usual in constructions of this type and serving as the means whereby the size of the main compartment may be varied according to the requirements. With the back member 11 is preferably made integral a flap 14, which is adapted to be bent over and lie in front of and adjacentto the front member 10, to close the bag. The flap is provided with a tab 15, carrying the element 16 of a separable fastener, the other element co-operating therewith, denoted by the numeral 17, being attached to the front member 10. By means of these separable fastener elements the fiap is removably secured to the said front member when the bag is closed.

To the inner face of the front member 10 is secured in any suitable manner a shallow tray 18, extending into the main compartment 13 and forming a supplemental compartment which is adapted to be closed b a closure frame 19, hinged at 20 in any suita le manner to the outer face of the front member 10 along the lower longitudinal edge 21 of the tray. This tray is of oblong configuration, as clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The closure frame is provided with a flap 22, carrying an element 23 of a separable fastener, the other element, denoted by the numeral 24, being secured to the front member 10. When the last-mentioned separable fastener elements are engaged, the closure frame 20 is held in its closing position.

When the elements are in the positions shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings the articles within the receptacles 25 can be readily taken hold of by the user, the said articles not only projecting I above the said receptacles but being outside of the tray 18. i

It is obvious that, while herein a main bag of specific configuration and construction has been described, the improvement herein specified may be combined with bags of other types without departing from the invention,

which lies mainly in'the provision of a sup-f plemental compartment combined with a closure frame which is so connected with receptacles within the 'suplemental compartment that the said receptacles are swung out from said compartment as the closure frame is shifted toward open position. Attention is "called to the fact that, while herein receptacles holding specific articles have been described, receptacles of any other shape and configuration-may be made use of according to the articles to be stored therein.
