SAMUEL GLAUSER PEER-IN, OF LE LOCLE,
S IT ERLAND, ASSIGNOR, BY MESNE As SIGNMENTS, TO THE FIB M SCHWAIB FBI-IRES 85 00., SOCIETE 'ANONYIVIE, OF LA CHAUX-DE-FONDS, SWITZERLAND, A CORPORATION OF SWITZERLAND WATCI-IGASE Application filed March 21, 1929, serial n5.
' watchcase which normally entirely covers the dial plate of the watch inserted therein. Another object is to provide meanson the'case for easily and'readily uncovering the dial platein order to see the time.
A practical embodiment of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the watchcase. Fig. 2 is a section through II-II of Fig.1. Fig. 3 is a Visit" of the casing from. underneath, the bottom cover having been removed.
The watchcase as representedcomprises a case body forming the bottom part'l and a bezel 2 having a rectangular opening 3 pro vided therein which is adapted to receive crystal in the grooved edge ,11 thereof. To the bezel 2 are hinged in l two lids 5 and (3. Each lid has a backwardly extending projection 7 which is subjected to the action of spring 8. This spring maintains the lids in closed position, in which position they cover the dial plate of the watch. .9 are push levers pivoted on the bezel in 10 and penetrating through the walls thereof to the outside of the case. When these levers are pushed to{ wards the interior of the watchcase they act on the projections? against the sprin 8 and turn the lids 5 and 6 into open position.
It will be understood that the invention is not limited to the details of construction as represented in the drawing. Particularly the device for operating the lids could be difierent. For example there could be provided for each lid a rack sliding in the casing and meshing with a pinion disposed on the axis of rotation of the lids.
I am aware that heretofore it has been proposed to provide a watch case with two hinged lids each provided with a spring tending to close it, which said springs can be simultaneously flexed by a slngle plunger mounted in the watch case wall. In the construction herein shown and described, however, by the use of separate, oppositely disposed movable members each cooperating with a separate lid, a resistance equivalent to 348,954, and. in Switzerland. A ril 12, 1928.
that of only one spring has'to'be overcome by the operator inorder to open the two lids, each spring serving as the means of transmitting saidpressure to the other. This constitutes animprovement over the above mentioned prior construction in which the sum of the resistances of the two springs must be overcome before the two lids can be opened. Obviously, therefore, the same rapidity and positiveness of closure of lids can'be attained with my inventionupon application by the user of only half the force required to secure the sameresult in the case of the-prior construction.
I claim: Y
1. A normally closed pocket casing, adapted to contain an article to be alternately disclosed and concealed, comprising, in, combination,a substantially flat, hollow bodyhaving an opening of relatively considerable area in one face and two oppositely disposed openings in the walls thereof, relatively near the outer edges of the cover plates twocooperating cover plates for said opening hinged adjacentv opposite edges thereof, a member located and operatively mounted in each of said smaller openings and-operatively connected to oneor the otherof said cover plates, and spring mechanism normally holding said cover plates in closed position; whereby, when said casing is held between the thumb and fingers of one hand inward pressure thereby exerted on said movable members will open the case. 7 V
2. A combination such as defined in claim 1 in which said doors are hinged to said casing with the axes of said hinges parallel one to another and extending at right angles to the common line of sliding motion of said mova ble members.
7 3. A combination suchas described in claim 1 in which sald motion transmlttmg mechanism consists of a lugextending fromeach door near the hinge thereof, and into the casing interior in the pathof one of said movable members. I
In testimony whereof I affix my signature. SAMUEL GLAUSER PERBIN.
