Description

Feb. 10, 1931. KR G ELY 1,792,430
7 CIGARETTE HOLDER Filed Nov. 23. 1928 'llllllllm ATTORNEY Patented Feb. 10, 1931 ITED STATES ATENT OFFICE MAX KRUGGELY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS CIGARETTE HOLDER This invention relates to certain novel improvements in cigarette holders and has for its principal object the provision of an 1mproved construction of this character whlch will be highly efiicient in use and economical in manufacture.
Among the several objects of this invention is to provide a cigarette holder with provision for snufiing the lighted end of the cigarette and to prevent the usual smokmg of the cigarette when the same is placed upon a table top or other stationary objects. I
A still further object of the invention 1s to provide a cigarette holder with a detach- V able snuifer having the provision for retaining the holder and cigarette from rotating when placed upon a table top or other stationary objects and to support the lighted end thereof from contact with the table top or the like and whereby the snuifer may be placed into position to snuff the cigarette While the cigarette holder is held in the end.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing, showing the preferred form of construction and in which:
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a sectional detail view of the same taken substantially on line 2+2 of Fig. l;
3 is a fragmentary elevational view of the invention showing the snuffer thereof in operative position; and
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary sectional detail View taken substantially on line 4-4: of Fig. 3.
Referring more particularly to the drawing in which the preferred form of construction is shown my improved cigaretteholder includes a tubular body 10 into which the end 11 of the cigarette 12 is adapted to frictionally fit. This body 10 is provided with an annular ring 13 set a predetermined distance inwardly from the end 14 of the member 10. The snuifer is indicated at 15 and is in the form of a sleeve adapted to slidably set upon the cigarette 12 and when at its innermost position one side 16 thereof is adapt ed to frictionally fit upon the end 14 whereby the snuifer will be held to the body 10 when not in use.
Formed upon the snuffer 15 is a ring 17 having a plurality of flat surfaces 18 whereby when the snuffer is placed upon a table top 19 or the like it will prevent the cigarette holder from rotating and will also support the lighted end 20 of the cigarette from conpalct with the surface of the table top or the In using cigarette holders of a type which I am familiar with prior to my invention it is a known fact that when holder is taken out of the mouth and held in the hand with the cigarette mounted in the holder that the cigarette'will continuously smoke much to the discomfort of the smoker or ones near him. The advantage of my improved snuffer resides in the fact that when the holder is held in the hand the user may detach the snuffer, from its mounting, slide the same outwardly upon the cigarette to a point adjacent the burning end of the cigarette and thereby temporarily snuff out the smoke. If not permitted to remain in this position too long the cigarette Will still be lit when the snuffer is remounted upon the holder.
It will be thus seen that by the provision of my improved snuffer the smoke of a cigarette may be temporarily dispensed or when the cigarette holder is placed upon a surface the snuffer will not only temporarily snuff the smoke but will after a short duration snuff out the cigarette.
If desired a suitable connection (not shown) may be provided for removably connecting the snufier to the cigarette holder such for example a light chain or an expansion coil spring.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification, without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come Within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. The combination With a cigarette holder, of a snufier mounted on the holder and adapted for slidable movement therefrom and on the body of a cigarette to a point adjacent the burning end of the cigarette.
2. The combination with a cigarette holder, of a snuifer mounted on the holder and adapted for slidable movement therefrom and along the body of a cigarette to a point adjacent the burning end of the cigarette, and means associated With the snuffer to retain the same in an unrollable position when the holder is placed upon a stationary object.
The combination With a holder adapted to support the cigarette, of a snuifer movable in a direction from the holder on the body of the cigarette into snufiing position With respect to the burning end of the cigarette.
4. "The combination with a holder adapted to support the cigarette, of a snulfer movable in a direction from the holderon the body of the cigarette into snufiing position with respect to the burning end of the cigarette, said snulfer comprising a sleeve like form and having one end portion adapted for frictional mounting upon the outer end of theholder.
5. The combination With a holder adapted to support the cigarette, of a snuifer movable in a direction from the holder along the body of the cigarette into snuffing position with respect to the burning end of the cigarette, saidsnu'lfer comprising a sleeve like form and having one end portion adapted for frictional mounting upon the outer end of the holder, said sleeve having a ring like ,portion provided rivitha plurality of circumventiously disposed fiat surfaces.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
MAX KRUGGELY.
