Description

1,623,635 H. POTTS CIGARETTE HOLDER AND THE LIKE April 5 1927.
Filed Nov. 4, 1926 Patented Apr. 1927.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HELEN POTTS, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
CIGARETTE HOLDER AND THE LIKE,
Application filed November 4, 1926. Serial No. 146,074.
construction of this character which will. 5 properly support a cigarette or the like dur-- mg combustion; will permit or promote free combustion; and which will prevent the dropping or spreading of ashesresulting from the combustion. a o
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combination and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and cit aimed. I The inventi n will be best understood by '15 reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Fig. 1, is a longitudinaljsection of a cigarette holder embodying the invention;
Fig. 2 a longitudinalsection of a casing or barrel employed in the construction and shown as removed or detached from the other parts; and y .Fig. 3 a transverse section taken on line 33 of Fig. 1.
r The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawings comprises the usual mouth piece 4 having the usual socket 5 therein for the reception of the end of'a cigarette 6 or the like. The mouth piece 4 is provided with an externally threaded nipple 7 having an abutment shoulder 8 at its inner end and a hollow casing or barrel 9 is threaded on said nipple to-abut against said shoulder 8. The barrel or casing9 is provided in its sides with longitudinal recesses 10 to fit the longitudinal sides of the cigarette 6, thus supporting said cigarette through its entire length. The barrel 9 is vertically elongated so as to provide free air spaces 11 both above and below the cigarette 6, thus permitting and promoting free combustion thereof. The barrel 9 is open at its free end and is there provided with a retaining lip or ledge 12 adapted to retain the ashes of combustion therein.
By this arrangement a cigarette or the like will be properly supported in the'casing or barrel 9 throughout its entire length;
so complete and proper combustion permitted and promoted; and the ashes of combustion retained in the holder until it is desired to discharge the same, which may be readily done. The specific form and arrangement of parts constitutes one for the purpose.
WVhile I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my 1n vention into effect, this is capable of yarlation and modification without departmg from the spirit of the invention. 1, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but deslre to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An article of the class described comprising a mouth piece; and a hollow casing projecting therefrom and arranged to enclose a cigarette or the like, the sides of said casing being longitudinally recessed to re ceive the sides of said ci arette, there being air space in said casing a ove and below said cigarette, substantially as described.
2. An article of the class described comprising a mouth piece; and a hollow easing projecting therefrom and arranged to onclose a cigarette or the-like, the sides of said casing bein'g longitudinally recessed to receive the sides of said cigarette, there being air space in said casing above and'below said cigarette, the free end of said casing being open and'provided with a retaining lip adapted and arranged to retain the ashes therein, substantially as described.
3.- An article of the class described comprising amouth piece provided with aprojecting externally threaded nipple; a hollow casing threaded on said nipple and adapted and arranged-to enclose a cigarette or the like,the sides of saidcasing being longitudinally recessed to receive the sides of said cigarette, there being air space in said casing above and below free end of said casing being open and pro- -videdwith an ash retaining lip, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have name to this specification.
HELEN POTTS.
