These and other objects which will be apparent to those skilled in this particular art are attained by means of the invention illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a front elevational view of cooperating closure members or doors provided with a stop mechanism constructed in accordance with one embodiment of this invention. Fig. 2 is atop plan view thereof,
partly in section, showing the mechanism in operative door holding position.
The particular embodiment of the present invention which has been chosen for the purpose of illustration, is shown in connection with an opening 5 which may be partially or completely closed by one or more closure members such as the cooperating doors 6 hinged to a supporting frame 7 by means of pins 8 engaging hinge pin lugs 9 on the doors and similar pin lugs 10 on the frame. In the present construction door closing springs 11 are employed for normally pressing the doors into closed position.
As illustrated, the door holding mechanism is so formed as to operate automatically upon opening the doors 6, against the pressure of the springs 11, so as to hold the doors in open position until access to the opening 5 is no longer desired, at which time the check or stop can be manually set to permit closing of the door under spring pressure. This mechanism consists of a stop 12 slidably mounted upon the hinge pin 8 or any other similar supporting means and provided with a tongue 18, which is adapted to be received within a slot 14 formed in the door, when the stop is raised to a position opposite such slot. It will be apparent that when in this position the slot and'stop cooperate to permit closing of the door. The stop itself is so formed audits dimensions are such that opening the door 6 causes the stop receiving recess 14 to swing away from the stop and free the latter from the confines thereof. This permits the stop to slide downwardly by gravity and away from the recess into the position illustrated at the left in Fig. 2

To close the door it is merely necessary to free the stop from the pressure of the doo'rfl so that it can be raised manually to a position opposite the recess 14, at which timethe door may be closed. The movement of the employed, his attention is so directed to the stop by its movement that he is immediately informed thereby of the manner of its operation and the necessary step to permit closing of the door.
What I claim as new and desire to'secure by Letters Patent is:
1. The combination with a support having a door hingedly mountedthereon, of a stop slidably mounted on the pin of said door hinge and movable by gravity into position between said door and said support when said door is open to prevent closing thereof.
2. The combination with a door and a frame to which said door is hinged, of a stop slidably mounted on the pin of said hinge,
means on said door for holding said stop in inoperative position when said door 1s closed,
said means being formed so as to release said stop to permit movement thereof into position between said door and said frame when said door is opened. I
3. The combination with a door and a frame to which said door is hinged, of a as i vertical rod adjacent the hinged side of said door, a stop slidably mounted on said rod, and adapted to drop between said door and said frame to prevent the closing of said door,

4. The con1b1nat1on with a door and a frame to which said door is hinged, of a stop siidably mounted on the pin of said door hinge and dapted to drop by gravity into position between said door and said frame when said door is open to prevent the closing thereof; said door having a slot slightly below the upper hinge on said door for receiving said step when raised adjacent thereto to permit the closing of said door. 7 j V 5. The combination with a frame, of a door hinged thereto and provided with a slot adjacent to the hinge, an interlocking member slidably mounted adjacent the hinged side of the door and adapted to be received in said slot when said door is closed, said slot being formed, to release and to permit said stop to drop downwardly between said frame and said door when said door is opened to prevent the closing thereof.
