MORRIS SNEIDER, or BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, ASSIGNOR To THE MARY AND com PANY, or BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, A, CORPOR TION OVERALL GARMENT Application filed February 21, 1930. Serial No. 430,353.
wherein the suspenders are secured at their rearward ends in a peculiar and novel-manner, whereby the back portion of the garment may be disconnected from the suspenders in order that the back portion may be dropped without .disarranging the position of the front portion or of the suspenders, and without removing the latter from the shoulders of the wearer.
A further object of the inventionis to provide a garment of the class aforesaid in which is employed a novel type of suspender capable of being detachably secured at its rearward end to both the front portions of a garment. v
With the foregoingandother'objects in view the invention consists of the novel con* struction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more particularly described, and as illustrated in'the accompanying drawing wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that the description and drawing are to be taken as illustrative and that the invention is intended to be limited only by the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a front elevation of a garment in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is a rear elevation thereof showing the back or seat portion disconnected from one of the suspenders.
Figure 3 is a section taken on line.33 of Figure 1.
The garment illustrated in the accompanying drawing is designed particularly for wear by women although it is contemplated that the invention will be applied also to overall garments adapted to be worn by men and children. The garment as shown includes main body designated generally and back v by the numeral 1. which is formed with a pair of depending legs 2. The body 1 includes a front portion 8 formedor provided at its upper edge with a front waist band 4, and aback or seat portion 5 formed or providedat vits upper edge with a back waist band '6. fit the sides, thereof the front and back portions of the body are stitched together from the lower edges of the portions to points removed from the waist bands 4 and 6, such points being designated by the portion 3 whereby a triangular fiapportion 8 is provided which is free of connection with both the waist band 4 and back portion 5. The flap portion 8 is bent or turned back and secured to the forward face of the frontportion 8; Each of the flaps 8 is provided with a button 9 for the purpose of ornamentation. Spaced from each end thereof the waist band 4 is provided with a suitable buttonhole 10. Secured-to the inner face of the front portion, 3, are a pair of pocket forming members 11 which project outwardly beyond the bends of the flaps 8. The upperedge of each member 11 is securedtothe waist band 4, and the outer side edge thereof extends in continuation of an end face of the waist band 4 and of the stitched side edgesof the front portion 3 and back portion 5. Each pocket forming member .11, in connection-with the inner face of the front portion 3, provides a pocket the entrance of whicheis disposed at the folded edge of a flap v8. In horizontal alignment with the ornamental buttons 9, each pocket forming member 11 is provided with a button-hole l2. 7 g x Spaced from each end thereof, the rear waist band 6 is formed with a series of buttonholes 13, in the present instance three of such button-holes being provided adjacent each end'of the waist band. Adjacent each end of the waist band 6 a button 14 is provided which is disposed in horizontal alignment with the button-holes 13. The waist band 6 "is of greater length than the waist band 4 and the end faces thereof are disposed in continuationof the side edges of that portion ofthe 7 points of connection 7 between the front and back portions. At each side thereof, from a point 7 to and including an end portion of the waist band 6, the back portion 5 is inturned to provide a flap 16 which is provided with a button 17. The buttons 17 and 14 respectively are adapted to be engaged with the button- holes 12 and 10*.
Formed with or secured to the front waist band 4, and extending upwardly therefrom, is a bib 18 which is provided centrally thereof with a suitable pocket 19, and which is provided adjacent each upper corner thereof with a button hole 20, each of which is adapted to have secured thereto a suspender 21. Each suspender 21 is of elongated, tapered formation having its smaller end disposed forwardlyand provided wit-h a button 22 for engagement with a button-hole 20 in the bib 18. At the wider-rearward end thereof,
each suspender is formed with an enlarge ment 23 which is provided with a series buttons 24 for engagement with the button-holes 13 spaced from one end of the rear waist-band 6. The enlargement 23 of each suspender is formed with a lateral projection 25 which is adapted to be curved around a side edge of the bib 18, and which is provided with a button-hole 26 for engagement with a button 27 secured to the forward face of the bib 18 adjacent a lower corner thereof. I
When it is desired to drop the back or seat portion 5, the buttons 24, 14 and 17 respectively are disengaged from the button- holes 13, 10 and 12 respectively which entirely frees all of the back portion 5 which is located above the points of connection 7 between the front and back portions. Owing to the engagement of the buttons 27 with the button-holes 26, the rearward ends of the suspenders 21 are maintained in proper position with the suspenders passing over the shoulders of the wearer and with the front portion of the garment, including the bib 18, in proper wearing position.
It is thought that the many advantages of a garment in accordance with this invention will be readily apparent, and although the preferred embodiment of'the invention is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, so long as such changes fall withint-he scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims. 7
