IMPROVEMENT IN FOLDlNG TABLES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,773, dated June 13, 1876; application filed March 31, 1876. I

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE HESS, of thecity, county, and State of New York, have invented a iiewand Improved Folding Table,

which invention is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing, in which-- Figure 1 represents a transverse section of my table when unfolded. Fig. 2 is a similar section of the same when folded.

'With the toggle-braces and folding wings are combined hinged legs, which, when the table is unfolded, drop down and improve the stability of said table.

In the drawing, the letter A designates the .frame of my table, which is composed of two legs, B, a traverse, 0, below, and two traverses, D, above. On this frame is firmly secured the stationary top E, which is, provided with two folding wings, F F. These folding wings connect with the lower traverse G by toggle-braces G G, each of which is composed of two sections, a b, which are connected to each other by hinge-joints c, the sections a being attached to the traverse O by hinges d, and the section b to the folding wings F by hinges e.

When the folding wings are turned up to the position shown in Fig. 1, the toggle-braces are thrown out and retained in the posi ion shown in said figure by stops or shoulders f at the joints 0. By these means the folding wings are firmly supported-in the plane of the stationary top E, and by pressing the joints 0 inward the toggle-braces are caused to fold up, and the folding wings turn down to the position shown in Fig. 2.

With the toggle-braces G Gare combined legs H, which are connected to said braces by hinge-joints g, 'so that they can be turned into the position shown in Fig. 2 when the table is folded up. When the table is unfolded, and the toggle-braces are thrown out to the position shown in Fig. 1, the hingedwlegs H assume a vertical position by their own inherent gravity, and by their action the stability of the table is improved.

What I claim as new, and desire to secureby Letters Patent, isg 1. In a folding table, having folding leaves F F, the combination therewith of the frame A, the fixed top E and legs B, the lower traverse 0, extending from leg' to leg, and the toggle-braces G G, hinged or pivoted to the traverse O, and connected with the hinged leaves by hinged joints or pivots, substantially as and for the objectspccified.

2. The combination of hinged legs H, with the toggle-braces G, folding wings F, stationary top E, and traverse G of the frame A, substantially as set forth.
