IMPROVEMENT IN BLIND-STOPS- Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,739, dated J nne 13, 1876; application filed January 725, 1876.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, JOHN L. CRAWFORD, of Michigan City, in the county of Laporte and State of Indiana, have invented an Improved Blind-Slat Fastener, of which the following is a specification:

The object of my invention is to provide a blindslat fastener by means of which the slats may. be adjusted to and fastened at any angle, even in the dark; and to this end it consists in a wire hook hung in thelower end of the slat-rod, in combination with a cast-metal guideplate secured to the lower stile of the blind-frame, which plate has a vertical groove molded therein, in the bottom of which groove several holes are drilled to receive the point of the hook, which thereby locks the rod and attached slats, all as hereinafter more fully dedescribed and definitely claimed.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a blind whose slats are locked closed by my devices. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the lower part of said blind, showing the hook disengaged from the lock. Fig. 3 is a vertical section through the center of the look.

In the drawing, A represents the frame of a Venetian blind, in which are pivoted the slats B, all of which are", in turn, pivoted to the slat-rod O, in the usual manner. A wire, a, is hung in the lower end of the rod (3, with a square hook turned in its lower end. D is a cast-metal plate, secured to the lower stile of the frame, directly below the slat-rod, and has a vertical groove molded in it, in the path of the hook. Several 'holes or sockets, b, are drilled or molded, from the bottom of the groove, into or through the plate, into either of which holes the hook maybe inserted to hold the slats at any desired angle. The

groove serves also as a guide for the hook, so

that a person may readily adjust the slats in the dark.

What I claim as my invention is The combination, with the frame A and slats B, of the slat-rod O, pivoted to the center of the said slats, the hooked wire a, hung in the lower end of the said slat-rod, and the castmetal plate D, secured to the frame, and having a vertical groove molded in its face, and the series of holes I), all constructed and arranged substantially as described and shown, for the purpose set forth.
