IMPROVEMENT IN TICKET-CASES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. `7,707, dated June 13, 1876; .application filed April 17, 1876.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES N. AYREs, of Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State. of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Coupon or Local Ticket Cases, of which the following is a specification:

My object is to obtain in a coupon or local ticket case for railroads the greatest possible convenience with the greatest compactness. To this end I arrange an independent ticketholding case directly within an independent outer case, and hinge the former at the outer corner, next to the hinged door of the inclosing-case, so that it can be opened directly Within and between the sides ofthe inclosingcase, and again closed to give the advantage thereby of occupying Qno more space than that ot' the outer case, which is a matter of great importance, as the ticket-case may be opened for supplying it with tickets directly from the front ot' its inclosing-case, and it projects, when opened, only in front.

To admit of the ticketcase to open and close within the sides of its inclosing-case, the former isrounded at its inner corner at its free side, thus obtaining the compactness stated.

rlhe outer case is provided With a hinged door for locking up the ticket-case when not in use. In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents a vertical cross-section of av couponticket case, embracing my invention; Fig. 2, a horizontal section through the line x o9 of Fig. l, with the ticket-case in place. Fig. 3 is a similar section, showing the ticket-case turned out; and Fig. 4, a front elevation of a row of ticket-divisions.

The outer case A is of suitable size and dimensions to receive and whollyinclose a separate and independent ticket-case, and is provided with a front door, B, whereby the ticket-case maybe secured when not in use. The ticket-case C is from eight to ten inches in depth, 4and is secured within the inclosingcase by vertical pins c a at one of its front,- top, and bottom corners, and upon which it turns in being opened and closed. 'lo admit of this movement it is rounded at its inner corner B2, Aopposite to the hinged side, by which greater compactness is obtained. 1t is hinged to allow it t0 be turned out upon its front corner, directly in front of the inclosing-case, and against one of its sides, to give facility for filling it with tickets from the back or inner side, which is open for thatpurpose. The

divisions for the tickets are formed by sheet- The object of this construction is to support l the tickets so as to present their full-face view; and for this purpose their guard-slipports c are set back atL their lower ends from the front upon the inclined shelves D, and project out from the front. at their upper ends, thereby allowing the tickets to be drawn out upward as they are required, as the upper ends of the tickets stand out from the front of the case just beneath the bottom of each shelf. A cap-strip, d, may, it' desired, be arranged vto form the top slots e, so .that only one ticket can be drawn outat a time.

vBy the construction all the tickets are arranged upon their ends, and, being Linclined forward at the top, are thereby held in place by their own Weight. This plan also affords the convenience of puttlng in each division a package of tickets as it comes from the printers-that is, two hundred and lifty tied up, y

and the string or wrapper is eut and drawn out when the package is put in place. In using a full package this way I am enabled to save space in height, as a package of tickets, if placed so as to be drawn out horizontally,
