IMPROVEMENT IN FRUIT AND JELLV PRESSES.
Specilcation forming part of Letters PatentNo. 178,495, dated June 6, 1876; application tiled May 17, 1876.
To all whom. it may concern Be it known that I, ANDREW WEMPLE, of the city of Chicago, Cook county, State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fruit and Jelly Presses, of which the following is a full description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure lis an elevation, with a portion of the cylinder cut away, and showing the posi tion of the parts when the contents of the cylinder have been partially pressed; Fig. 2, a detail.
My invention consists in the devices used to raise the follower to produce the pressure.
In the drawings, A represents a perforated.
cylinder, made of sheet metal. B is a cast metal cover fitting the cylinder. C is a castmetal follower, to the center of which is permanently secured the metal bar D, which passes through a'hole in the cover B, andv moves freely therein. E is a sheet metal strap, the lower end of which is secured to the follower C by the side ofthe bar D. Near its upper end is a-hole. F G is a lever. The part G is circular, and F is the handle. G is provided with trunnions @,which rest in bearings in the tops ofthe standards b, which may be cast upon and with the cover. c is a pin secured in the periphery of G. d is a handle, which may be secured in a socket, e, cast upon the cover.
Operation: The cylinder A is to be placed on a table. The lever and cover are to be removed, and the follower to be placed at the cover of the cylinder, the strap E being drawu over upon G, as shown in Fig. l. Whensufciently pressed, if the lever be released, the spring of the strap E will release it from the pin c. The cover can then be removed, and the operation repeated.
As shown, the trunnions a rest in open bearings, so that the lever can be readily removed and replaced.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The cylinder A, follower C, and bar D, in combination with the springstrap E and lever G, substantially as and for the purpose herein described.
