Description

UNITED STAT-'E s PATENT OFFICE.
SIMON J. KEIM, or:c ilirnsnUQUA, PENNsYLvA'NII/l, AssIGNon oF ONE- y HALF Hrs `RIGHT .fro WILLIAM YOUNGER, on SAME PLAGE.
IMPROVUEMNIINLARD AND FRUIT APRI-:SSIS AND sAusAGE-SIUFFERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 203,345, dated May 7, 1878 application filed.
April 11, 1878,. p I
To all 'whom it may concern: v
Be it known that I, SIMON J. Knnvr, of Catasauqua, in the county of Lehigh and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lard and Fruit Presses and SausageStuii'ers 5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which they appertain to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a side view of a machine embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical section; and Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line w fr, Fig. l.
Similar letters of f reference denote corresponding parts in all the figures.
The object of this invention is to provide a simple, cheap, and effective machine capable of being used for the combined purposes of a lard or fruit press and a sausage-stufter; and the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of the sever-al parts, .as will be hereinafter described, and subsequently pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, A represents a suitable table, provided with legs or supports a a, upon which the several operating parts composing the machine are supported. B is a standard, arranged at one end of the table or bench A. The standard B has a slot, b, in which slides the head C of the plunger or follower D. The said head C is provided with lateral projections c c, which prevent the withdrawal of the head C from the slot, except at the upper end, where the sl'ot, as shown at .11', is sufficiently wide to permit the withdrawal of the head C.
L is a lever, pivoted at the upper end of the standard B, and carrying an eccentric, E, provided with a ange, F. The sliding plunger-head G has a slot, c', and two upwardly projecting ears or lugs, d d. To the innerside of each of the lugs d is pivoted a roller or caster, e, traveling upon the flange F on either side of the eccentric, and in the bottom ofthe slot c is arranged a roller or caster, f, forming a bearing for the under side of the ange F.
I The iiange F, near the lever, is broken off, as
shown at g, to permit the plunger to be detached after the head C has been disengaged from the standard B.
Gr is a pin or hook, arranged upon the sliding head C, which may be made to engage with a suitable spring-catch arranged upon the lever, thereby holding the plunger elevated while the machine is not inoperation.
The table or bench A is provided with a longitudinal slot, K. H H are two vessels or hoppers, each provided with a screw-threaded rod, projecting downwardly from the bottom thereof and passing through the slot K,s0 as to enable the hoppers to be clamped or secured upon the table by thumb-nuts N N, adjusted upon the under side of the table. The .hopper H, which is used for pressing fruit and lard, has an interior vessel, V, made of perforated sheet metal, between which and the hopper H is an empty space, s, into which the juice kor lard is forced when pressure is applied, and
from which it escapes through a spout,.S, into a suitably-arranged vessel or receptacle.
By this construction splashing and consequent waste of material are avoided. The hopper H', which is used for stuiiing sausages, has a spout, S', to which the guts or coverings are secured.
The operation of my invention will be readily understood from the foregoing description,
taken in connection with the drawings hereto annexed. The one of the hoppers H H which it is desired to use is adjusted under the plunger close to the standard B, and secured with the nut N. When the lever is raised the rollers e c travel upon the flange F and raise theplunger, the motion of which is steadied. by the head C, which slides in the slot of the standard. When thelever is depressed the ange F bears against the roller f, thus forcing the plunger down into the hopper.
To remove the plunger, the lever is simply raised to the greatest possible extent, and swung back to the position shown in Fig. lin dotted lines. The head C is thus disengaged from the slot b, and may now, easily be lifted off the lever.
. Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United Statesl. The combination of the lever having the flanged eccentric `With the forcer or plunger having slotted head, provided with ears or lugs d dpand rollers or casters e e f, substantially as stantially as herein described, for the purpose set forth.
3. The combination of the standard B, having slot b b', with the plunger-head C, having projections c c, lugs d d, and rollers e e f, and the pivoted lever L, having eccentric E, provided With a ange, F, broken at g, so as to permit the removal of the plunger, substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have ,hereto at'xed my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
SIMON J. KEIM.
