Meat or Fruit Presses. N0. 137,803. Patented ApriH5J873.

LA ROY S. STARRETT, OE ATHOL DEPOT, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSTGNOR TO ATHOL MACHINE COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPRGVEMENT lN MEAT OE FEUIT F*RESES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 197,803, dated April 15, 1873; application filed December 16, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, LA ROY S. STARRETT, residing at Athol Depot, in the county of VVorcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain Improvement in Meat or Fruit Presser, of which the following is a specification This invention, which relates to an improved press for extracting the juices of meats or fruits, consists of the combination of the parts thereof, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing, Figure 1 represents an end view, and Fig. 2 a transverse vertical sectional view, of my improved press. Fig. 3 represents, respectively, perspective views of one of the hooks upon the yoke or bridge and of one of the eyes upon the cheeks or sides of the press, which eyes and hooks constitute the manner in which the said bridge or yoke is connected to or adjusted upon the said cheeks. I
Corresponding parts in the several figures are designated by corresponding letters.
A refers to the bottom or base of the press, which is supplied around its edges with up; ward-projecting flanges or a rim, A to and inside of which is fastened, by bolts or otherwise, a bottomless receptacle or vessel, B, which receives and holds the meat or fruit from which it is desired to extract the juices. This bottom is corrugated and also perforated, as shown at a a a the object of the former being to facilitate the operation of expressing the juices from the substance operated upon, and. that of the latter to enable the expressed juices to escape into any suitable vessel placed beneath the press. Within the receptacle B, and resting upon a plate, 11, placed over the opening a in the bottom A, is disposed an auxiliary finely-perforated bottom, A, through which the extracted juices also pass on their way to the perforated bottom A. A refers to one of the cheeks or sides of the press, of which there are two. These cheeks are constructed or cast in one, and of the same piece with the bottom A, by which strength and economy of construction are obtainced. Lateral plates or bars a a? are cast or c nstructed upon the cheeks A the upper extremities of which are enlarged and punctured or supplied with eyes a a 0 refers to the yoke or bridge, which may be constructed of two or more pieces and in any known way, that adopted in this instance being such as shown in the drawing. The ends of the said yoke or bridge are constructed with hooks c c, which take into the eyes a a. of the lateral bars constructed upon the cheeks A and. by which the said bridge is adjusted in place upon the said cheeks. If desired, the eyes upon the cheeks may be exchanged for hooks, and the hooks upon the bridge or yoke for eyes, and thus reverse the manner of fastening the said parts A and 0 together. D refers to a vertical screw, which is supplied with the handle D for operating it, and which passes down through threaded collars upon the bridge 0, its lower end being beveled and resting in a concavity, e, made in the follower. E is the follower, which, in lieu of the ordinary threaded neck or elevation, is supplied with the concavity or depression e, the purpose of which, as already stated, being to re ceive the lower end of the screw D.
By this arrangement the said screw and the bridge or yoke through which it passes can be removed without disturbing the follower, and the follower itself be separately lifted out of the receptacle, which is conveniently accorn= plished by grasping a knob, e, suitably fastened to the follower.
The use of the follower is too obvious for elucidation.
The press is supported upon legs F F east with or otherwise fastened to the bottom A.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is=
The bottom A A having the upright cheeks A in combination with bridge 0, screw D, handle D, follower E, and receptacle B, con= structed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name. 7
