CEASED.
IPffiflEsSllnr AND STRAINING MACHINE.
Application led December l0, 1919. Serial No. 343,965.
lo all whom "it may conce/"n:
Be it known that we, HENRY TRUST, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Park Ridge, in the county oi Bergen and State or" N w Jersey, and lFRANK M.
' ASHLEY, a citizen of the United States, and
ile
resident of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pressing and Straining Machines, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to machines for use in restaurants and kitchens for preparing food, etc. The object of our invention is to provide a machine suitable tor inashing and comminuting potatoes and other such vegetables and for straining` soups and expressing fruit juices.
Referring to the drawings which form a part hereof: v
Figure l is a vertical sectional view o' a machine embodying our invention.
Figure 2 is a plan view. A indicates the base of the machine provided with a cylindrical upper part A iaying an annular groove A2 in which is seated below the top thereof an outwardly eX- tending beaded edge B of the receptacle i i The base A is provided with aneXtending portion A3 and is open on the sides to permit a pan to slide under to receive the iinished product. The extension A3 makes the machine more stable and also permits a pan of larger diameter being placed under the base. 'C indicates lugs cast integral with the cylinder portion A and D is a rod hinged thereto and mounted on a cross rod E. The rod D is provided with a headed end D which rests in a socketl ines in Figure 2 and held at its bifurcated.
portion G2 by means of the lever nut G3 which is threaded to tit the bolt E and Clamps the lug G2 te 911e the luge C cast on cylinders. The piston H comprises a metal cap H 1n which is fitted a wooden blockV H2 having a groove H3 and a sheet tively, are driven through the top .H4 into the block H2 above the ends I, thus holding the piston rod to the piston and permitting the rod to swing relative to the piston. The construction of the piston is such as to renderit light, stiff and strong and cheap to construct. The lever K is connected at one end to the link F in hinged relation as shown in Fig. l andv tothe piston rod coupling L at K. The lever is provided with an extension K2 adapted to slide outward over the end of the lever to increase the leverage. k y
lVhen the lever is raised to the upper position indicated by the dotted lines K3, it can be moved laterally to swing the piston away from the cylinder A to permit access to the yreceptacle B, the link F being or smaller, rdepending on the articleto ybe mashed or comminuted, etc.
To operaterthe machineV the lever K is raised and swung aside, the materials to be mashed or strained placed in the receptacle B and the piston then placed above them and by means of the lever the piston is forced downward into the cylinder thusr mashing and forcing the food through the perforated plate M into a pan placed iin-- as will be Yreadily uny dery the receptacle derstood. y
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
l. A machine comprising a base portion, a receptacle having a beaded top edge from Whh it is Suspended the top 0f Seid base portion7 means fixed to the receptacle and ovf-nrlying` said beaded edge for holding said receptacle in position, a piston, and means connected to said base portion and Said piston for reciprocating said pist0n in said receptacle and for swinging said piston laterally from abovev the saine.
2. A machine comprising a base portion having a Cylindrical top With an outwardly extending bead formed thereon and lugs at one side thereof, and a ring havingin- Wardly extending lugs adapted to engage said bead and also having a bifurcated depending lug, and means for Clamping said bifurcated lug to Said lugs on the cylindrieai portion..
Signed at New York city in the county of New York and State of New York this 3rd day of December A. D. 1919.
