Description

A. 0. WEEKS.
Lemon-Squeezer.
Patented July 13, 1875.
M PETERS. FNnTO-UTHOGRIPHEFI. WASHINGTON D C ATENT A. CLARENCE WEEKS, OF NEW YORK, n. Y.
IMPROVEMENT m LEMON-*SQUEEZERS.
Spritication forming part of Lztters Patent No. 165,638, dated July 13, 1875; application filed April 26, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, A. CLARENCE WEEKS, of the city of New York, in the State of New York, have invented an Improved Lemon- Squeezer; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms part of this specification.
My invention relates to a novel construction and combination, producin g a l'ernon-squeezer; and the improvements are fully hereinafter described, and specifically pointed out in the claim, a preliminary description being, therefore, not deemed essential. 4
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a side view, partly in section, of my improved lemon-squeezer. Fig. 2 is a view at right angles to Fig. 1.
A represents a board, plate, or frame, provided with feet or legs a, for the purpose of supporting it high enough to admit of a suitable dish or vessel being placed under it. In the frame A is formed or attached the bowl B, having perforations I) in its bottom, as usual. To one end of the frame A is hinged a board or plate, C, carrying the plunger or follower D, which is of any suitable construction, and is arranged in the usual manner with relation to the bowl. Two standards, E E, are attached to the frame A, one on each side, in the upper portions of which standards are bearings for a shaft, f, to which is attached, midway of its length, a canrlever, G, arranged for contact of its face or bearing-surface with the upper side of the board or plate, which carries the plunger. J is a spring, which may be of rubber or metal, having its lower end attached to the board or plate C, and its upper end attached to the standard E. There may be two of these springs, one on each side, or a single spring may be arranged in such a manner as to accomplish the desired object. When the cam-lever G is depressed its face or bearingsurface presses upon the board or plate 0, and
forces the plunger into the bowl upon the lemon. By the use of the camlever an immense power is obtained, and the juice is extracted from the lemon in a'more thorough and perfect manner than when the power is applied directly to the plate or bar carrying the plunger. When the lever is depressed to squeeze the lemon the spring J is expanded, and when the lever is raised and the plunger released from its pressure, the spring J contracts, and lifts the plunger from the bowl.
,What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The frame A, provided with the perforated bowl B and vertical standards E, attached at each side of the said frame, in combination with pivoted plate C, having the plunger D, the spring or springs J, attached to the plate and to the vertical standards, and the transverse shaft f, journaled in the vertical standards and provided with the cam-lever G, all substantially as herein shown and described.
A. CLARENCE \VEEKS.
