A. REIN.
v GIGAR BOXING PRESS. No. 319,748.
Patented June 9 O lli m mee: Ill nu .Inventor Fg. 2 @Awww Rrvw NW6/ b mww'yh SVI" Attorney Witness ADAM REIN, OF HAMILTON,/OHIO.
CIGAR-BOXING PRESS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 319,748, dated June 9, 1885'.
Application filed April 30, 18H5. (No modeh) To all whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, ADAM REIN, of Hamilton, Butler county, Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements -in Cigar- Boxing Presses, ofy'hich the following is a specification.
This .invention relates to improvements in presses for pressing cigars into their boxes, and will be understood from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a press embodying my improvements; Fig. 2, a vertical longitudinal section of the same; Fig. 3, a vertical transverse section of a portion of the same upon line c,- Fig. 4, a horizontal section of a portion upon line b, and Fig. 5 a horizontal section of a portion at line a.
In the drawings, A indicates the sole-plate of the press; B, a hollow column rising therefrom; C, a set-screw in the column; D, the arm ofthe press; E, a hollow stem projecting downward therefrom into the column; F, arib upon the stem fitting a groove in the interior of the column; G, a Vertical series of counter-sinks in the face of the rib adapted to be engaged by the point of the set-screw; H, a vertical rectangular mortise in the end of the arm; I, the platen of the press; J, the platen-stem rectangular in section and tting the mortise of the arm; K, inwardly-projecting ears at the top of the platen-stem; L, the pivoted handlever for operating the platen; M, the eccentric portion of the lever provided with peripheral side ribs engaging under the ears K; N, the downwardly-curved extremity of the cam-curve of the lever, and O a second pivothole in the lever.
The arm is to be vertically adjusted in the column and fixed in position by the set-screw,
so that the working distance between the soleplate and platen will be adapted for the height of the cigar-box being filled. The boX of cigars, with a following-'board over the cigars,is placed on the sole-plate under the platen, and pressure is then applied by operating the lever. The pivot of the lever can be placed in either of the two pivot-holes in the lever, whereby the range of plunger travel and the power of the press may be adapted for light or heavy pressure.
The platen-stem is inserted upward into its mortise from below, and the lever is then hooked into the ears before the lever-pivot is inserted. The extremity N of the lever-cam makes contact With the top of the front wall of the mortise and prevents the lever being depressed so far as to permit the cam to disengage from the ears, and thereby permit the platenstem to drop from the mortise.
I claim as my invention- 1Q vIn acigar-boxing press, the combination of a sole-plate, a hollow column rising therefrom and provided with a set-screw, a pressarm provided with a stem and a platen-stem mortise, a stem provided with a platen and with top ears, and a cam-lever pivoted in the ADAM REIN.
