Description

UNrrEn PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM G. COOK, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JER-SEY, ASSIGNOR TO ANTHONY RUSENFIELD, OF SAME PLAOE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SASH'FASTENERS.
Specification forining part of Letters Patent No. 178,415, dated June 6, 1876; application filed October 16, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM G. GOOK, of Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have inventcd a new and Improved sash-Lock, of which the following is a specification My invention consists of a slotted disk on the lower sash and studs on the upper one, so contrived that when the disk is adjusted with the slot npright, the studs will pass through the slot unobst1"nctell and both sash may be shifted up and down freely but when the slot is shifted to the horizontal position with one of the studs in it, both sash will be locked so that one cannot move on the other. For windows with only one sash the studs will be on the frame or casing. A handle or shat't, with a thumb-piece, is connected to the disk, so that it can be turned freely froin the inside.
Figure 1 is a 'front elevation ot' a pair ot' windowsash, with my improved lock attached and Fig.2is a sect-ional elevation taken on line w x.
Similar letters'of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the slotted disk ou the lower sash B,
and (l studs on the upper sash D. The disk is in this case monnted on a shank or handle, E, which extends out through lower sash to be manipulated by the thumb-bit F; but the shank may be mounted on the top of the sash, if preferred. The disk being turned into the position represented in Fig. 2, with any one of the studs in the center of the slot, will lock the sash together, either closed or partly closed, according to the position of the stud.
lt is evident that where but one sash is employed the studs may be fixed in the casing, instead ot' the upper sash.
Having thus described my invention, I claiin as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of one or more studs, O, on one sash, With a revolving slotted disk, A, on the other sash, said disk having a shank or handle, E, for turning` it, and being relatively arranged to the studs, as specitied.
WILLIAM G, OOOK. Witnesses:
