This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a container for milk bottles or the like and an object of the invention is to provide a device of the character, which will automatically look when the door is closed, only to be released from inside the building to which it is attached.
Other objects and many of the attendant advantages will be readily appreciated as the invention becomes better understood from a consideration of the illustrative embodiment of the same and for which purpose such descriptive drawings have been hereto appended wherein:

Referring more in detail to drawings in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, it will be seen that the container 6 is attached to the exterior of wall 7 of a house or the like. This container 6 is of rectangular proportions, having an obliquely disposed, front wall 8., a substantialsection of which is constituted by the obliquely disposed door 9 which is hinged as at 10 by its lower edge in a manner to swing open from the top. A latch device is disposed within the interior of the container to automatically engage and lock the door 9 when it is closed. This device comprises a bracket 11 having ears 12 angularly disposed therefrom and this bracket is secured to the inner side of the front 8 intermediate the ends thereof and is disposed in a vertical position. An orifice 14 is produced in each of said ears 12 to operably receive a bolt lotherethrough, which bolt has an expansion coil spring 16 mounted therearound intermediate said ears 12 and more particularly in bearing with the upper ear and a key 17 is inserted through the bolt 16 to effect and depress the bolt into engagement with the keeper 18 attached to the inner margin of the door 9.
The door 9 is provided with a suitable hanv dle or knob 19 and is normally held open by thetension of spring 20. An aperture 21 is produced in the back of the container 6 and another aperture 22 produced in the wall 7. These apertures are aligned to receive bar 23 therethrough, which bar extends from inside the building as clearly illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawings. A suitable knob 24 is preferably provided upon that end of bar 23 which is situated within the building while the other end which is disposed within the container, has a chain 25 attached thereto, which chain is rove over a pulley-wheel 26 and attached by its other end to bolt 15. p
In operation it will be seen that the container normally remains open until an article is deposited therein, when the door 9 is closed to automatically look by receiving the depressed bolt 15 into the keeper 18, carried thereby. Now when the person inside the building wishes to obtain the article it is only necessary to grasp knob 24 and pull the bar 28, and the attached chain 25 which raises bolt 15 from engagement with the keeper 18 releasing door 9 which opens to normal position by the effect of spring 20, and the operator can go out and obtain the article.
It will be obvious from the foregoing description that this invention is a great improvement in containers and whilst the preferred embodiments have been disclosed yet it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction and arrangement of the co-operating elements may be resorted to within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of theinvention.
What I claim is A device of the character described comprising a container adapted to be attached to the wall of a house and having a front door hinged thereto at its bottom edge, a spring for swinging said door outwardly, a keeper attached to the inside of said door at its upper edge, a bracket attached to the inside of the front wall of the container above said keeper, a bolt slidably mounted in said bracket adapted to engage said keeper, a coil spring mounted on said bolt for keeping the bolt in engagement with said keeper, a pulley mounted above said bracket, an actuating bar slidably mounted through apertures in the Wall of the house and back of the container, and a cable connecting the inner end of said bar with said bolt, said cable extending over said pulley.
