PORTABLE LAVATORY Filed July 8, 1929 \x INVENTOR.
I %CM'O 6M ATTORN EY.
I which easily may be folded into a Patented Dec. 2, 1930 UNITED STATES JESUS G. HERNANDEZ, OI SEATTLE, WASHINGTON PORTABLE LAVA'IOBY Application filed July 8,
My invention relatesto improvements in portable lavatories, and has for an object to provide a wash stand equipped with receptacles for the necessary toilet accessories ortable package and as easily unfolded an setup for use.
I attain this and other objects of my improvement with the device illustrated in the accompanying sheet of drawings in which Figure 1 is an isometric perspective front elevation of my lavatory set up ready for use and Fig. 2 is an isometric perspective of the lavator folded in package form.
Simi ar characters refer to similar parts throughout. Certain parts are broken awa to show other parts hidden thereby.
With more particular reference to the designated parts A rectangular stand-top frame consists of side boards 3 and top (13 and is supported on four legs 4, 6 preferably of angle bars the upper ends of which are fastened to side boards 3 by screws 7extended through holes in the corners of frame 3 and engaged in registering tapped holes in legs 4.
Each of said legs consists of upper part 4 and lower part 6 overlapping and fastened to one of the corners of leg frame 5 by a screw a7 extended through registering holes 0 in leg parts 4 and 6 and en aged in a tapped hole in one corner of sai leg frame. By preference a cross section of the members of leg frame 5 is angle-bar shape.
In an opening in stand top a3 flanged washbowl 3 is mounted. Thus the wash stand proper consists of top a3, side-board frame 3, spliced legs 4, 6; 4, 6; 4, 6; 4, 6, and leg frame 5, fastened. together with screws 7, a7.
.Two back- board leaves 11, 11 are each provided with an extension of the inner edge thereof forward at right angles to the leaf 1929. Serial No. 376,596.
at all. The forward edges of each pair of extensions a9, all are hinged at 12 to allow each of leaves 11 to swing to a position forward of the back board and oifset therefrom.
To the edge of each side of the stand top is hinged one of top leaves 13 at hinge joint 14 adapted to allow said leaf to turn over to lie on top of the stand but not to permit it to swing downward out of parallelism with the stand top. The front end,15 of each of leaves 13 is bent at right angles thereto to stand vertically upward when the leaf is par allel with the stand top. Each rear end a15 of leaves 13 is like end 15, similarly disposed and, parallel therewith. The outer ends of each pair of leaf ends 15, (115 have aligned holes therethrough the hole in end (115 being tapped. Towel rods 16, 16 have threaded ends a16, (116, and one of said rods is extended through said holes in each of said pairs of leaf ends 15, a15 and the threaded end thereof is engaged in the tapped hole in leaf end (115.
The upper wire of the rear wall, of soap holder 17 is engaged in hinge eyes 18 in back board 9. This holder is free to turn upward in sald eyes. Lug (117 projects rearward from a lower rear corner of the soap holder to bear on the flanged rear edge of wash bowl 8. When in its illustrated position lug a17 prevents back board 9 from swinging forward on hinge 10. Yet the construction permits of I holder 17 swinging forward and upward on eyes 18 and when it is in this oscillated position the back board is freeto swing forward on its hinge.
Mirror 19 is fastened to back board 9. Toilet- article pockets 20, 20 are'fastened to the front surfaces of leaves 11, 11. Drinking glass pockets 21, 21 are also fastened to said leaves 11. Pockets 22 and 23 are. also fastened to said leaves.
When set up for use the stand provides suitable accommodation for lavatory purposes as shown in Fig. 1.
When desired the stand may be packed in smaller compass as shown in Fig. 2. This is attained in the following manner: Screws 7 and said bowl while soap holder 17 occupies a place in the bowl ad acent its-rear wall.
Having thus disclosed my invention, what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,-
In a portable lavatory, the combination of a wash-stand top frame, a wash-stand top fastened to said top frame having an opening therethrough, a leg frame, four separably spliced legs reniovably fastenable to said top frame, and to said leg'frame, a wash bowl mounted in said opening in said stand top, a back board hinged at its bottom edge to the rear edge of said stand top oscillatable only between a position at right angles with the plane of said stand top to a position overlying the same, back-board leaves joined to each side edge of said back board by forwardly offset hinges for oscillation only from a position in the plane of said backboard to a position in front of, parallel with and offset from said back board, toilet-accessories holder: fastened to said back board and to said back board leaves, releasable means to retain said backboard in a position at right angles to said stand top, leaves connected with hinges'to each side edge of said stand top for oscillation only from a position in the plane of said stand top to a position overlying the same, arms having aligned holes therethrough fastened to each end of each of said stand-top leaves projected at right angles therefrom
