APPARATUS FOR FACILITATING THE MANIPULATION OF MANICURING Filed June 18, 1930 INVENTOR BY 5 4? JEN/4,6.
S ATTORNEY Patented Dec. 2, 1930 UNITED STATES ERNEST G. SACHSE, OF EDGEWATER, NEW
APPARATUS FOR FACILITATING THE MANIPULATION MANICUBING Application filed June 18,
This invention .relates tomeans for facilitating the operation ofmanicur'mg. One of its objects is to serve as mechanical means in substitute of the manual effort of the operator in steadying the finger during the operation performed thereon. Another object of the invention is to bring about the necessary tensioning of the surface to be manicured. I
In the accompanying drawin 'Fig. 1 is the top view ofv the evice. Fig. 2 shows a bottom view with theback cover removed. 1
Fig. 3 shows a longitudinal section through the plane A-A of Fig. 1.
Fig. .4 shows the device with a finger in relative position of operation.
The apparatus consists of a casing .1 of which projection 2 is an integral part, said projectionbeing adapted in contour to the shape of a finger by means of a groove 3. The central part of the casing has an opening 4 that serves as a guide-way for two clamping wings 5.
The inside of the casing is adapted to house a pair of yoke-shaped brackets 6, which form a part of the aforesaid clamping wings. Each of the brackets is suitably jointed to a push pin 7 projecting through the side wall of the casing 1 and a distance beyond. The brackets 6 are normally forced towards each other by the tension of two springs 8 which are connected to the four arms of the brackets. The push pins 7 are so arranged that they lie parallelly close together and each of them passes through a hole in the nearest bracket to the bracket beyond to which it is jointed.
By this arrangement the clamping jaws 5' which normally are forced against each other by the tension of the springs 8 will be spread apart on depressing the push pins 7 In order to permit the insertion of the parts that are housed in the casing the bottom has a re; movable back-plate 9 which is preferably sprung into posltion. Said back-plate has at its center a. ridge-like projection 10 (Fig. 3) to serve as a stop to the return to normal position of the movable brackets.
It will be clear that preparatory to depositing the finger within the clamping jaws. it

will be necessary to spread thema sufiicient distance apart. This is accomplished 'by means of a pressure against both push pins 7, after which the finger is inserted in the opening. Removing the applied pressure from the push pins 7, the jaws will tend to assume their normal position under the action of the springs with a consequent clamping efiect against the sides of the finger. It will also be seen that this clamping pressure, by virtue of its action against the sides of the finger will cause a convexing of the upper surface of this clamped'portion resulting in a tensionin thereb facilitating the operation.
.llaving lly described my invention what I claim as. new is: v
1. A device of the class and for the purpose specified comprising a supporting frame, a finger -est-plate, a pair of clamping jaws, arranged to. engage the sides of the nail-end of a finger deposited upon the rest-plate, and means adapted for spreading and closing said clamping jaws.
2. A device of the class and for the purpose specified comprising a supporting frame, a finger rest-plate, a pair of clamping jaws, said means involving springs for normally closing said jaws and push pins in operative connection with the clamping jaws.
3. A device of the class and for the purpose specified comprising a supporting frame, a finger rest-plate, a pair of clamping jaws, said means including springs for normally closing said jaws, push pins in operative con-- nection with the clamping jaws, an opening in the rest-plate for guiding the movement of the jaws, and a groove in the restphate conforming to the contour of the fingeren Signed at Ed ewater in the county of Bergen and State 0 New Jersey this 10th day of May A.
