FREDERICK CnC-BUEN, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE GRUEN WATCH COMPANY, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, A CORPORATION OF OHIO.
CLASP.
Application' led\0ctober 8, 1920. Serial No. 415,600.
a citizen of the United States of America,
and resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Clasp, of which the following is a specification.
An object of my invention is to provide a clasp that is especially adaptable to Vwrist bands such as are used on wrist watches, etc.
Another object is to provide a -clasp that will be ornamental as well as useful.
Another object is to provide a neat. simple and relatively thin clasp that will be light in weight and that will give efficient service.
These and other objects are attained by V the means described herein and disclosed in the accompanying drawing in whichi Fig. l, is a plan view of a clasp embodying my invention, mounted upon a wrist watch band. l
Fig. 2, is an enlarged sectional view on line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3, is an enlarged perspective view of the rear of the plate Jforming a detail of my invention.
Fig. 4, is an enlarged ragmental perspective view of the rear of the base forming a detail of my invention.
The plate A has a. lug a extending therefrom, the lug having a head a formed above the parallel longitudinal notches faz and c3 formed in the sides of the lug. The notches form seats for a purpose that will be explained hereafter.
The base B comprises a frame b betweenl the Sides b and b2 of which extends cross bar bs having a central slot b4. A spring b5 having arms b6 and 57 is mounted on the cross'bar, and is retained thereon by the lug 68 extending from side b2 and securing the loop b9 formed on the spring, to the frame b.
The spring arms I)6 and 127 have their ends 51 and b respectively embedded in the side b of the frame. The arms are arched adjacent their ends, the arm sections, between the arched sections 612 and b1 and the eye b",
being parallel and extending over the slot 'b4 in the bar b3. The arms are spaced from one l another a distance slightly less .than the thickness of the lug a between the notches a2 and as therein. 55
The band Cvis attached to the plate andl the base and extends around the wearers arm or wrist.
The operation of my device is as follows:
The plate A is placed over the base B, the lug a extending into the slot b4 in the base. By exerting pressure upon the plate A, the head a on the lug is moved upon the arms b and 127 of spring b5, pushing such arms apart and causing the head to pass beyond said arms. As soon as the head has passed the arms, thev spring arms tend tol resume their normal or unstrained position, whereby the arms seat in the notches a? and a3 on the lug and secure the lug between them, consequently holdingy the plate upon the base. The plate and base are separated 4by moving lthe head of the lug back between the arms and thru the slot b4. This is readily accomplished by inserting the finger nail between the plate and base.
What I claim is l. In a clasp the combination with a base adapted to be secured upon a wrist band and comprising a frame, aslotted cross-bar on the frame, spring arms mounted on the frame adjacent the slot in the cross-bar, of a plate adapted to be secured upon a wrist and, and a lug extending from the plate, the lug being adapted to extend thru the slot in the cross-bar and to be secured between the spring arms.
2. In a clasp the combination with a base comprising a frame adapted to be secured upon a wrist band, a slotted cross-bar on the frame, spring arms mounted on the base and extendin over the erom-bar adjacent the slot therein, of a plate adapted to be secured to a wrist band, a lug on the plate, and a head on the lug, the head being adapted to pass thru the slot and between the spring arms, whereby the lug will be yieldab 3. A clasp comprising a base, a spring and SEB a lug plate, the base having sides connected by a slotted cross bar, the spring having arms with a connecting loopV and with arches at their ends, the spring being mounted upon the base with its arms located upon opposite sides of the slot and with the loop engaging one of the sides of the base and its ends engaging the other side of the base and plate having a lug adapted to pass through the slot and to engage the arms.
In witness whereof, l have hereunto subscribed my name this 7th day of October, 1920.
FREDERCK Gr. GRUEN.
