Description
D. M WIRTH Feb. 14, 1939.
BELT BUCKL E Filed June 1, 1938 I MM Patented Feb. 14, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This application relates to expanding belt buckles, wherein the expanding member is a spring. The novel feature of the invention is the manner in which a yoke carrying a spring is con- 5 nected with a belt buckle frame. The ends of the yoke are connected with the buckle through openings in one side of the buckle frame. After the ends of the yoke are inserted through these openings, the ends are bent over along the side of the frame. These bent over ends serve to hold the yoke securely in place. The ends also act as guards to hold in central position the belt engaging tongue that is mounted on the side of the buckle frame between the openings.
In the drawing Fig. 1 is a front view of the form of spring buckle assembly contemplated by this invention.
Fig. 2 is a side View of the spring buckle assembly shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the buckle frame and tongue used in the form of buckle disclosed in this invention.
Referring to the drawing:-
In Fig. 1 the buckle frame I has on one side the openings A and B. Swingably mounted on one side of the buckle frame, between the openings A and B is the belt engaging tongue 2. The yoke 3 carries the spring 4. The ends of the yoke are 0 inserted through the openings A and B, said ends C and D being bent over along the side of the buckle frame. There is shown partly in section the belt 5, which is slidably carried on the yoke, the spring exerting pressure against the belt.
In Fig. 3 is shown the two openings A and B in the buckle frame I. Swingably mounted on the buckle frame between the two openings A and B is the belt engaging tongue 2.
The buckle frame as shown in Figs. 1 to 3, can be made by forming a bar or wire into shape as desired, or the buckle frame can be stamped from a flat piece of material, or stamped from. sheet metal, or also may be a cast buckle frame.
It is definitely understood that I do not desire to limit the application of this invention to the particular modifications set out herein to illustrate the principles thereof, and any changes may be made in material and structure and arrangement of parts consistent with the spirit and scope of the invention.
1 claim:
A belt buckle of the class described comprising a buckle frame, the end portions of a yoke inserted through openings in one side of the buckle frame, the end portions of the yoke: being bent towards the said side of the buckle frame, a spring carried on the yoke for resisting longitudinal movement of the belt, the belt slidably carried on the yoke, a belt hole engaging tongue swingably carried on the buckle frame between the bent end portions of the yoke for cooperating with said buckle frame for retaining the free end of the belt.
