EDWARD L. ANDERSON, OF ATTLEBORO, MASSAGI-ITTSETTS; ASSIGNOR TO STANDARD BUTTON COMPANY, OF ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS.
SOFT-COLLAR HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 22, 1921.
Application filed June 7, 1920. Serial No. 386,928.
1 '0 all whom it may concern:
lie it known that I. Enwnnn L. Alanna soN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Soft-Collar Holders, of which the following is a $13861 fication.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in soft collar holders and the primary object of the invention is to provide a holder of this type which can be easily and quickly made in two snnple operations, 71. 0., the metal from which the holder is made, is first bent and pierced and then finally shaped in a second and subsequent operation.
The invention further aims to provide a holder for collar tips or ends which is made of a single integral piece of metal, and wherein the collar ends are frictionally gripped.
Still further the invention aims to lessen the cost of production of collar holders, and to otherwise improve the same, especially as to simplicity, eliminating all points or pin-like parts heretofore in connnonusage.
In the drawings Figure 1,, is a plan view of the blank in the first stage of the manufacture.
Fig. 2, is a similar view of the completed fastener or holder;
Fig.3, is a rear side elevation; and
Fig. 4, is an end elevation.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, a blank is formed which can be cutout of a piece of'sheet metal by use of a die, or which can be formed with cut- outs 1, 1, and shaped asby bending to form a curved front bar 2, and a rear bar connected to the front bar by a central con necting member or post or stem 8. The rear bar is then curved to form jaws or gripping elements 4, the jaws having a compoundcurve formation and having their free end parts engaged with the rear face of the bar 2. as depicted at 5. The free ends of the bar 1, and the free ends of the jaws 4 are curved or beveled as shown in Fig. 2 at 6 and 7, to provide a V-like entrance, which is for the purpose of facilitating engagement of the collar ends between the jaws and the front bar 2. The metal from which the device is formed is of a resilient or spring character, so that the jaws 4;, will at all times have a tendency to move toward the front bar The post or connection 3, thus serves as the sole medium of connection of each of the jaws to the front bar From the foregoing it will be apparent that there are no points which must be forced into the collar ends and no movable parts whatsoever, the jaws having a mere slight resilient action to permit the engagement of the collar ends between same and the rear face of the front bar.
But two operations are moreover necessitated in the production of the device, 6., the formation of the blank in Fig. 1, and the subsequent shaping thereof into the form of Fig.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In soft collar holder, a curved front bar, a stem integral therewith and projecting rearwardly from the front bar, and a rear bar integral with the stem and formed with compound curved end portions forming jaws which have parts formed to hold the collar ends against the rear face of the front bar, the ends of the jaws and those of the front bar being beveled to form V shaped entrances for the collar ends.
2. In a soft collar holder, a curved front bar, a post-like stem integral therewith and extending roarwardlv therefrom at the center of the front bar, and a pair of jaws integral with and extending outwardly from opposite sides of the rear end of the stem and formed to hold the collar ends against the rear face of the front bar.
3. A soft collar holder formed from a single'integral piece of metal and having a front bar and a rear bar connected by a post-like stem disposed centrally of the length of the bars, the rear bar being shaped to form jaws which hold the collar ends against the front bar and. said stem being of such length so as to hold the center of the rear bar spaced from the front bar.
4:. A. soft collar holder including a front bar, a single integral post-like stem extending for a distance beyond the front bar and In testimony whereof have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
