IMPROVEMENT IN DUST-BRUSHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,298, dated June 6, 1876; application filed August 5, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSIAH W. HOWARD, of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented an Improved Dust-Brush Center, of which the followingis a specification My invention consists in an improved elastic center for W001 dust-brushes.
The figure is a longitudinal section, and shows the relation of the center to the handle and the parts to each other.
To the stemf of the brush end of the handle A is secured a spiral wire, D, extending out as far as the brush material needs to be secured. This spiral wire is incased in a rubber tube, E,
or tube of leather or thick cloth, which also is made fast to the stem f. The two together make a very complete elastic center. To this center, and to the brush end of the handle, is secured the wool or brush material in some suitable manner; but I 'make no claim to the mode of attaching the wool.
One mode of attaching the brush material to this center is to take small pieces and clippings of sheepskins, with the wool on, which have been cut off and left, in preparing that kind of skins formats and the like, and these pieces are sewed or tacked together, and, either by sewing or binding, are secured to this elastic center and to t hegd oi the handle; or these small pieces may be sewed or bound to this center without being first tacked together.
I claim- A wool dust-brush center, the spiral wire D and incasing-tube E of which are attached to and in combination with the handle-head, sub-' stantially as and for the purposes specified.
