J. KALLISTA.
HORSE COLLAR PAD. No. 283,610. t Patented Aug. 21, 1883.
a @W V C;7i/v VE/VTOR Afforney UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH KALLISTA, OF PEORIA, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO WILLIAM C. HAA'NA, OF SAME PLACE.
HORSE-COLLAR PAD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 283,610, dated August 21, 1883.
Application filed June 20, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, Josnrn KALLISTA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Peoria, in the county of Peoria and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horse-Collar Pads, of which the fol-- lowing is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to horse-collar pads; and it consists in the parts which will be hereinafcer described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a sideelevation of the pad. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the elliptical top piece. Fig.- 3 is a plan view of one of the two outside pieces. Fig. 4 is also a plan view of one of the two inside lining-pieces.
Like letters indicate like parts throughout the several. views.
A is the elliptical top piece, and A is the perforated edge thereof.
B is one of the outside layers, and B the upper perforated edge. The edges A B are adapted to be engaged and secured together by thread or other suitable means. The two outside pieces, B, are made of the same size and shape.
0 represents the curved longitudinal surface of the elliptical layer A when said layer is engaged with the side pieces, B.
D is one of the two inside lining-pieces, and D the curved perforated edgethereof. A corresponding strip identical in shape has its up-. per curved edge united to the edge D, the said strips D constituting the pad'lining.
E are buttons with which the thread is engaged that passes through and secures the stuffing between the leaves B D.;
p G G are rivets for securing the collar-strap v Fto the pad, and H is the buckle on said 0 strap.
The advantages of my pad are: First, it will cure a. horses sore neck. It also prevents a neck from becoming sore, and when a horses neck has grown thin from hard work 5 by sewing the ends of the collar to the lower ends of the pad. The curved upper edges of the layers B, when the elliptical piece Ais secured thereto, make a uniform longitudinal curvein said piece-that is to say, gives it a concave lengthwise.
These pads can be made of leather, clot-h, (or of metal, lined with cloth or leather,) or sheep-skin, &c. The lining-pieces D are padded, and they are therefore larger than the surface-pieces l3.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As an improved article of manufacture, a horse-collar pad composed of the elliptical end piece, A, layers B B, and the lining-pieces D D, secured and arranged in the manner and for the purposes specified. In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH KALLISTA.
