IMPROVEMENT IN PAN-SHIELDS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,145, dated May 30, 1876, application filed April 29, 1876.

To all whom it may concern: 1

Be it known that I, SAMUEL HAUGK, of Lebanon, in the county of Lebanon and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in 'Pan- Shield and Stove-Protector; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification,

and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a perspective view of my panf-shield, and Fig. 2 is a vertical central section through the shield and pan. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of my shield.

This invention relates to improvements applicable to frying-pans, the object of which is to prevent the grease from splattering therefrom; and the nature of my invention consists of a band of circular form, having a slot in one end of it, and a malescrew rigidly secured to the other end, which screw is passed through the slot, and has a thumb-nut applied thereto, as will be fully explained by the following description.

In the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates a band of any suitable width and length, bent in a circular form, having at one end a longitudinal slot, at, for the reception of a male screw, 1), which screw is rigidly secured to the other end of said band A. This band A is bent, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, and forms a shield and protector against splatteriug grease.

Through the band opposite the slot a is an opening, B, which is provided with a hinged door, 0, that can be opened without removing the shield or protector A from the pan E while cooking.

D represents metal clamps, rigidly secured to the shield or protector A, for the purpose of clamping the same to the pan E.

By loosening the thumb-nut b theshield or protector A can be readily expanded or contracted to suit any size of pan to which it may be desired to ,attach it.

When the shield is adjusted to the pan, by tightening the thumb-nut b on the screw b said shield will be securely held and prevented from expanding or contracting.

It will be seen from the above description that my shield or protector can be easily adjusted to fit any size pans to which it may be applied. It is also durable, and at the same time simple, and cheap to manufacture.

By the use of my shield or protector all of the grease that splatters from the material while cooking will strike against the inside of said shield and fall into the pan again.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. A shield or protector, A, as herein described, provided with clamps D, and having a slot, a, cut for the reception of the screw 1).

2. In combination with the shield A, the opening B, provided with the door 0, screw b, and thumb-nut b, all arranged to operate as herein described.
