Description

No. 855,499. PATENTED JUNE 4 190% .0. W. BURKHEADL ATTAGHMBNT FOR SAFES. APPLICATION FILED A2B..'80,1906.
"Ill! mun d WITNESSES: i
v By I I ATTORNEYS CHARLES W. BURKHEAD, or CINCINNATI, OHIO.
ATTACHMENT FOR SAFES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 4;, 1907.
Application filed April 30, 1906. Serial No. 314,550.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, CHARLES W. BURK- HEAD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Attachments for Safes, of which the following is a specificationv This invention relates to attachments for safe knobs, and more particularly to handle attachments for the same, the object being to provide a detachable handle which is much simpler and cheaper in construction,
than devices of this character now in use and one which is provided with means for engaging the knob so as to prevent the device from turning on the same.
With these objects in view, the invention consists of the novel features of construction,
hereinafter fully described, and pointed out.
in the claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this specificationz-Figure 1 is a perspective view of the portion of the safe door carrying the combination dial, showing my device at tached. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of my device attached to the knob which is partly broken away. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the parts of my device detached.
In the drawings A, indicates a portion of a safe door, B, the dial plate, C, the knob and E my improved device attached to the knob, which consists of a metal strip F, provided with a slot F, and an outwardly extending pin F adjacent one end forming a handle. The other end of the plate is bent as shown at F, to form a hook adapted to fit over the knob of the handle and is provided with a threaded opening in which a thumb-screw G, is mounted, adapted to engage the knob, for the purpose hereinafter fully described.
A plate H, having a curved end H, forming a hook is adapted to fit over the knob and is provided with an outwardly extending threaded pin H adapted to work in the slot F, and be securely locked therein by a thumb-nut I, which securely locks the plates together on the knob.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided a device which can be adjusted to fit any size knob and one which is provided with means for securely locking the device on the knob Without any danger of it turning.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A detachable handle comprising a longitudinal slotted plate having a handle at one end and a hook at the other provided with a threaded opening, a thumb-screw working through said opening, a plate having a hook at one end and a threaded pin extending out at right angles at the other, adapted to Work in said plate and a thumb-nut working on said pin, for the purpose described.
0. W; BURKHEAD.
