Description

I. P. ABBOTT & w. H. TRISS LE' R EAVES THOUGH-HANGER.
No.17Z,841. Patented Feb.'.v1-,18- 76.

UNITED STATES JONATHAN P. ABBOTT AND WILLIAM H. TRISSLER, OF CLEVELAND," 01110..
PATENT Q FIGEL IMPROVEMENT IN EAVES-TROUGH HANGERS.
T Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. [72,841, dated February 1, 1676; application filed July 6, 1875.
To. all whom t't-may concern:
Be it known that we, J oNATHAN P. ABBOTT and WILLIAM H. TRISSLER, of Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and Improved Eaves-Trough Hanger, of which the following is a full and complete description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, ,7
making part of this specification, in Whichv Figure 1 is an end view of an eaves-trough and the hanger attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a plan view. Fig. 3 is a detached viewof the hanger. Figs. 4 and 5 are modifications of Like letters ,of reference refer to like parts in the several views.
This invention is a device for'hanging eavestroughs, the construction and application of which are as follows Inthe drawing, A represents a section of the eaves-trough, which is or may be like that in ordinary use. B is a cross-bar, one end,-
and a little distance therefrom.
The bar is attached to the trough as follows: The inner edge of the trough is left straight in the line of its curve that is to say, the
' edge is not bent inward, as shown at b, but
continues on in' the curve-line, as indicated by the dotted line 0, 'Fig. 1. I This inner edge of the trough is inserted between the finger D I and. the end of the bar, in the space a. In
order to do this the bar is held up endwise. The bar is then bent down to a horizontal position, bringing the end E upon the bead 0, around which it is then bent, as shown in Fig. 1, whereby that side of the trough is secured.
.In the act of brin 'ing down the bar to a down over the end of the bar, thereby locking the edge of the trough to the bar, as shown in Fig. 1.
To'the bar B is riveted the strap F, whereby the trough is fastened to the roof. Fig. 4 is a modification of Fig. 3, in which a finger is formed by cutting into the end of the bar two incisions, forming a finger, e, of the metal I of the bar, instead of making it of a separate piece, as is the finger D above described.
Fig. 5 represents the finger as made of a strip of metal of sufficient length to form also a strap whereby to attach the trough to the roof.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
g The bar B, having the inner end bifurcated by attaching a curved finger, D, and the outer end curved to clasp the head of a trough, incombination with said trough andthe holding-strap F, all constructed substantially as and for the purpose described.
