Be it known that we, FRANKLIN M. BOWERS and JOSEPH L. DIOKELMAN, citizens of the United States, residing at Forest, in the county of Hardin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Eaves-Troughs; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in eaves-troughs of that class in which the trough is made up of sections or lengths detachably united and provided with a fold or doubled portion to form a guide for the adjoining section or length.

It has for its objects among others to provide an improved eaves-trough of this character in which the sections or lengths can be more readily joined and when joined will be stronger and less liable to become separated. In forming the sections or lengths we make a bead or roll upon both edges, and at one end of each section or length this bead or roll is formed with extensions or lips which serve to guide the entering section into proper position and which serve also to aidl in strengthening the joint. These extensions or lips are important in guiding the end of one section into the groove formed by the folded over end of the section on which the extensions or lips are formed.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear and the novel features thereof will be specifically defined by the appended claims.

The invention in the present instance resides in the peculiar combinations, and the construction, arrangement and adaptation of parts, all as more fully hereinafter described, shown in the drawings, and then particularly pointed out in the claims.

Referring now to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a section or length of the trough which is formed upon bot-h edges, with the roll or bead a formed thereon in any well known way, and at one end of the section or length this bead or roll, is extended beyond the end of the body portion of the trough to form the lip or lips a which are preferably tapered or beveled from their upper sides downward and toward the opposite end of the trough as shown. The body portion of the trough at this end is formed with a groove b to receive the end of the adjacent section or length B, and this groove is formed by folding a portion of the metal of the body portion upon itself to form the groove. The

portion which is to be folded is somewhat narrower than the body portion proper as seen so that when it is folded upon itself at the end of the body portion as shown at c and thence extended a proper distance toward the other end and then bent upon itself as seen at d, the same will terminate within the space between the rolls or beads on the trough whereby the rolls or beads may be formed independent of the folded portion, either before or afterward. The free end of the folded portion is extended beyond the end of the body portion as seen at e to form a guide and support for the end of the adjacent section or length.

The operation will be readily understood. In uniting the sections or lengths the end of the one is first brought opposite the groove in the other, the extensions or lips on the rolls or beads of the latter serving to center the entering end and at the same time strengthening the joint.

The trough may be further provided with the transverse brace bars D if desired which may be secured thereto in any of the well known ways.
