Description

Patented Oct. 21, 1930 UNITED. STATES; PATENT OFFICE RAUL VIBCK, OF DESSAU IN .ANHALT, GERMANY, ASSIGNOR TO GENERAL ANILINE WORKS, INC., OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION OF DELAWARE PROCESS OF DYEING PELTS, HAIRS, FEATHERS, AND THE LIKE R Drawing. Application filed December 6, 1927, Serial No. 238,221, and in Germany September 14, 1926.
to the general formula:
x x 1 CuYHoNIF-QX X NH;
wherein X means H, alkyl or halogen and Y stands for H, -OH, -NH or NH-arylNI-I The not mordanted goods are treated with an aqueous solution of a salt of such a 3- amino-arylamino-derivative of the naphthalene and then with an acid nitrite solution, whereby valuable dyeings are produced on the fiber. For example, a thoroughly killed 3 skin is handled at ordinary temperature for some hours in a bath containing per liter 2 gr.
of2- (3-aminophenylamino) -naphthalenehydrochloride, some alcohol and a small proportion of hydrochloric acid. It is then washed and handle in a second bath containing per liter 3 grams of sodium nitrite and 6 grams of acetic acid per liter. The dyeing is between yellow and rose.
2- (4-methyl-3-aminophenylamino) -naphthalene produces a similarv dyeing, 2- (4'- methyl- 3 -aminophenylamino) 7 hydroxynaphthalene produces a reddish-brown dyemg.
Similar' dyeings are obtained from the naphthalene derivatives mentioned which are substituted in the benzol nucleus by halogen.
What I claim is 1. A process of dyeing pelts, hairs and feathers by successively treating the goods with an aqueous solution of a salt of a naphthalene derivative of the general formula:
C mYHeNH X I X NH;
(wherein X means H or an univalent substituent of the group consisting of alkyl and halogen), and with an acid nitrite solution.
3. A process of dyeing pelts, hairs and feathers by successively treating the goods with an aqueous solution of 2-(3-aminophenylamino) naphthalene hydrochloride and with an acid nitrite solution.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature. 80
PAUL VIROK.
