Abstract

Substantive dyes, dyeing with; regenerated celluloses, dyeing.--Dyeings with dyestuffs containing free sulphonic or carboxylic acid groups, especially dyeings with substantive dyestuffs on cotton or regenerated cellulose fibres, are improved by causing the dyestuff in the finished dyeing to interact on the fibre with a metal complex compound of an aromatic or heterocyclic base containing at least 2 basic nitrogen atoms in the molecule. The formation of the metal complex compound and the after-treatment of the dyeings may be performed in the same bath. The improvement may be in the fastness to water or to light or in the depth of the shade. Specified metal complex compounds are those of chromium, iron and copper with o-phenanthroline, nitro-o-phenanthroline, amino-o - phenanthroline, phenylenediamines, N : N<1>-tetramethyl - o - phenylenediamine, N - monomethyl - o - phenylenediamine, 2 : 2<1>-dipyridyl, 8-aminoquinoline, 8-aminoquinaldine, 2-[5<1>-(8<1>-hydroxyquinolyl)]amino-4-(3<1> - trimethylammonium chloride)phenylamino-6-hydroxy-1 : 3 : 5-triazine and the product obtainable by the Skraup synthesis from 2 : 3-diaminonaphthalene (1 mol.) and glycerol (2 mols). In examples, (1) cotton, dyed with Diamine pure blue FF, Congo red or Direct deep black EW, is treated for \ba1/2\be hour with an aqueous solution of the copper complex compound of the above 1 : 3 : 5-triazine derivative; the solution may contain acetic acid or may be alkaline; (2) cotton, dyed with the dyestuff, 2 : 6-aminonaphthalenesulphonic acid --> (alkaline) urea of J-acid (alkaline) \sM aniline, or with Diamine green B, is treated for \ba1/2\be hour with an aqueous solution at 30 DEG C. of the copper complex compound of 8-aminoquinaldine; (3) a dyeing with Diamine pure blue FF is treated for \ba1/2\be hour with an aqueous solution of the copper complex compound of 8-aminoquinoline; (4) cotton, dyed with Sirius black L, is treated with an aqueous solution of o-phenanthroline-cupric chloride or of the corresponding complex compounds from nitro- or amino-o-phenanthroline or the product obtainable by the Skraup synthesis from 2 : 3-aminonaphthalene (1 mol.) and glycerol (2 mols.); (5) cotton, dyed with Diamine green B, is treated with an aqueous solution of the copper complex compounds from cupric chloride and 2 : 2<1>-dipyridyl (1 or 2 mols.) or with the corresponding iron complex compounds; (6) cotton, dyed with Direct deep black EW extra, is treated with an aqueous solution of the copper complex compound of N : N<1>-tetramethyl-o-phenylenediamine or of N-monomethyl-o-phenylenediamine; (7) cotton, dyed with Direct deep black EW extra, is treated with an aqueous solution containing 8-aminoquinaldine and copper acetate, first at room temperature and then at 80 DEG C. 2 - [5<1> - (8<1> - Hydroxyquinolyl)]amino - 4-(3<1> - trimethylammonium chloride) phenylamino-6 - hydroxy - 1 : 3 : 5 - triazine is obtained by condensing cyanuric chloride (1 mol.) in aqueous solution at ordinary temperature with 3-aminophenyltrimethylammonium chloride (1 mol.) and thereupon with 5-amino-8-hydroxyquinoline at 50--100 DEG C.; the copper complex compound is obtained by treating the product in hot aqueous solution with copper sulphate in excess, adding sodium acetate and acetic acid, boiling and salting out. Copper complex compounds of 8-aminoquinoline and 8-aminoquinaldine are obtained by mixing an alcoholic solution of the amine with an aqueous solution of copper sulphate. Nitro- and amino-o-phenanthrolines are obtained by nitrating o-phenanthroline and reducing the nitro group. The copper complex compound of N : N<1>-tetramethyl-o-phenylenediamine is obtained by diluting with water an alcoholic solution of the amine (1 mol.) and copper acetate (1 mol.)
