This invention relates to chairs in which a folded table plate forms theback of the chair. When unfolded, theimproved chair serves as table. f
At the back of the chair two suitably K curvedflongitudinal barsy arev stationarily fixed tothe back legs of the chair, for instance by screws and bolts. Said two back rods must be so curved, to enable the easy reception of the folded table -platewhen the improved chair has to serve as seat.
When unfolded-the table plate is supportedat the front of the chair by means'of a U# shaped frame; which latter is pivotally fixed to the front part-of the chair." `The table plate per seis formed of two plates artcu, Y
lated in any suitable and reliable* manner vat the centre where both plates join. One Vhalf of the table plate is rigidly connected to the 7 20 two lfree upper ends of the U- shapedfraine1 whereas the other'half of the table plateY is laid over said rigidly connected first half of the table plate.` In folded position` the U- shaped'frame forms the flash continuation of p the seat and-the folded tablev'plate forms the back ofthe chair. j e
Furthermore a drawer is provided under- Y neaththeseat, which drawer'is so constructed f that it may bedrawn out at the,y right as well'` as at the lefty ofthe chair frame. Y
One form of execution of the present inven-v tion is shown, by way of-example, lin the accompanying drawings, wherein-v v Fig. 1 is a top view of theimproved chair,
the table yplatebeing in4 its folded position,y
serving as back of the chair. Y
Fig. 2 is a side elevationof the chair, yche table plate beingvin unfoldedposition, the whole serving as table. 'Y
Fig. 3 is a front elevation-of the chair, according to Fig. 2.

. the seat 1 with two front legs 2 andtwo rear stationarilyfxed, ffor instance yby means of 5o bolts and screws. `Said twov longitudinal Theframe of the chair is, as usual, rnadeiof` vare `connectedtogether at lthetop by means of a small transverserod 6,

"Suppose, the table plate isr folded together Vand Servesras back lof thechair. y Athe knob 17 with one finger of the right handk j, *l Y "alvldjlft's the folded `table plate 11,'12, which luu One grips thus automatically raises the U-shaped pivotable frame 10. The back of the chair, e. g. the folded table plate, is raised until the front transverse part of the U-shaped frame 10 butts against the front part of the chair, that is to say until the frame stands vertical. The plate 12 of the table plate is then unfolded, e. g. brought into the stretched position (Figs. 2 and 3) until the dove- tailed incisions 15, 16 underneath the plate 12 of the table plate engage the extensions 7 and'8 of the transverse rod 6. The table plate is thus securely fixed in its position.
To bring the table plate into its original position, e. g. as back of the chair, it is merely necessary to rip the knob 17 with one finver, to fold the p ate 12 over the plate 11 and to push the thus folded table plate into the curved ortion of the longitudinal bars 4 and 5 until t e lower edge of the @folded table plate `rests on the lowest curved portion of the longitudinal bars 4 and 5. Once the folded table plate in its position of rest, the U-shaped frame 10 will form the flush continuation of 5 the seat l and the chair can serve as seat.
Evidently the several parts of the improved chair may be otherwise disposed to realize the object of the present invention without departing from the scope of this in- .so vention as the form of execution shown in the drawings is merely by way of example. t
I claim An improved chair comprising a seat, two front legs, two rear legs in combination with 85 two suitably curved bars fixed to the two hind legs, a small transverse rod the extremities ofv which extend sidewards out of the two curved bars, a. frame pivotally mounted on the front part of the chair, a table plate consisting of two plates of whichthe one plate is rigidly connected to the upperv free ends of the pivotable frame, and the lsecond plate hingedly connected to the first mentionedk plate so as to enable the folding over of said 5 plate onto the first plate, two rods on the bottom surface of the second plate, one dovetailed incision in each ofsaid two rodsto engage the extensions of the transverse rod when the table plate is in'stretched position. In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
