IMPROVEMENT IN STOVE-DOOR KNOBS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 177,294, dated May 9, 1876; application filed March 27, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, RALPH STRIGKLAND, of Albany, in the county of Albany and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Stove-Knobs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
In the drawings accompanying and forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of a knob constructed according to my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view, representing the knob applied to a door.
My invention consists in constructing a stove-knob, the exterior of which is a thin shell of any suitable metal, such as brass, copper, zinc, or tin, and the interior a core of any proper non-conducting substance or substances, such as plaster-of-paris, marble-dust, or cement, either separately or combined.
In the accoinpalfyiu g drawing, A represents the thin metallic shell, which, struck up, spun, or'otherwise made, forms the exterior of the knob, and is composed of a cone-shapedbody, a, over the larger end of which is fitted the convex cap a), both the cap and the smaller end of the cone-shaped body being pierced centrally (a and ed) for the passage of the screw 0. B is a filling of plaster-of-paris, marble-dust, cement, or other suitable nonconducting substance, occupying the cavity of the shell, and forming the core of the knob. O is a common metal screw passing longitudinally through the center of the knob, and serving, in conjunction with the nut 0, to secure the knob to the stove.
The main shell a of the knob is first filled with the non-conducting material, and then the cap a is applied, and secured in position by turning its lower edge beneath a flange on the upper edge of the shell a. The screwstem is then passed through the cap and shell of the knob, so as to hold said parts together.
I am aware that it is not broadly new to construct a door-knob of an external metallic shell and a filling of composition material, and I therefore limit myself to the peculiar construction of parts which alone forms the subject-matter of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The non-conducting stove-knob herein described, consisting of the shell or metallic body a, attachable cap a non-conducting filling or core B, screw-stem G, and nut c, all constructed and relatively arranged as herein set forth.
