.Be it known thatl, ELLswoR'rI-I A. LA HAR, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Britain, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Turn-Button for Electric Switches, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a turn-button which has an elastic means for connecting it with the operating-spindle, whereby the button may be firmly fastened to the spindle and will hold a cover or plate in position without binding' The object oi this invention is to providea I 5 simple construction which is strong, durable,
and very elastic.
The embodiment of the invention, which is illustrated by the accompanying drawings, has a thumb-piece, ofinsulating material, containing a metallic socket which is formed of an angular tube and an angular cap with aflange, the insulation being molded about the socket when the th um b-piece is formed. In the socket is a headed block with a threaded opening 5 which is adapted to receive the thread on the end of the operating-spindle and a spiral spring which thrusts between the head of the block and the end of the cap.

2 shows a horizontal section on the plane indicated by the dotted line 2 2 on Fig. 1. Fig. 3 shows a side view of the thumb-piece, the angular tube, the headed block, the spiral spring, the flanged cap, and the spindle before the parts are put together.
The thumb-piece 1 is formed of insulating material in any approved design. This insulating material is molded about the socket,
4 which consists 01 an angular tube 2 and an angular cap 3, which is simply thrust upon the outer end of the tube, so the flange 4 will extend outwardly some distance from the ends of the socket. It is preferred that the tube and cap be hexagonal in cross-section and that one loosely fit the other. As a result ol the angularity oi the tube and cap, thesocket cannot rotate in the thumb-piece, and the flange prevents the socket from being pulled from the thumb-piece when in use.
Loosely fitting in the socket is a block 5, having a head that fits the openingin the tube and a shank that fits the opening through the end of the cap. It is preferred that the head of the block be hexagonal, so that it will not 5 5 rotate, but will have a free movement longitudinally ot' the tube. in the socket and thrusting against the head of the block and against the end of the cap is a spiral spring 6. This spring normally draws the block into the tube. A threaded hole 7 is formed in the outer end of the block to receive the threaded end of the switch-spindle 8. The block is screwed onto the spindle by turning the thumbpiece. The turn-button is very simple to manufacture and assemble. The block and the spring are quickly thrust into the tube and the cap easily placed upon the end of the tube. Then the socket put in the mold, and the insulating material which forms the thumbpiece is molded about the angular tube and flanged angular cap.
The in vention claimed. is
1. A button having a thumb-piece of insulating material containing a socket which is formed of a tube that is angular in cross-section and has a cap with a flange that is embedded, in the thumb-piece, the socket containing a headed block and a spiral spring that thrusts between the head of the block and the 30 outer end of the cap, substantially as specified.
2. A button having a thumb-piece of insulating material containing a socket which is formed of a tube that is angular in cross-section and an angular flanged cap thatis thrust 5 on the end of the tube, the socket containing a block that is held against rotation and a spring that thrusts the block toward the inner end of the tube, substantially as specified.
