D. B. OLMSTEAD. CURTAIN POLE KNOB.
No. 810,712. Patented Jan. 13,1885.
I Z I 'm WW eu WITNESSES: to IN'VENTOR:
@QMW IOQOM' 1. 6. ZW'Q BY- (I, I
ATTDRN'BYSE DAVID B. OLMSTEAD, OF NE? YORK,
ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF, AND THOMAS SUMMERVILLE, OF BROOKLYN, N. Y.
CURTAIN-POLE KNOB.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 310,712, dated January 13, 1885. Appl cation filed June 9, 1884. (N model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID B. OLnsrniin, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Curtain Pole Knob, of which the following is a full,
clear, and exact description.
Heretofore curtain-pole knobs have been spun or stamped, and thereby the beauty of the designs of the knobs was limited more or less, as elaborate and fancy knobs could not be made, except at a very great expense.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved curtain-pole knob which can be made at a comparatively low cost in I5 any design, either plain or elaborate.
The invention consists in a curtain pole knob cast in composition and then metalplated.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying 2o drawings, forming part of this specification, in
which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure l is'a longitudinal sectional elevation of one of my improved curtain-pole knobs, the
same being within the mold. Fig. 2 is alongitudinal elevation of the knob, parts being broken out and others shown in section.
The knob A is east in a suitable mold, B, in the usual manner of casting hollow metal articles. The knob is formed of a composition of metals-foriustance,lead, antimony, tin,&c. The cast knob is then plated with brass, nickel, silver, or gold on its outer surface, as may be I desired, and is then ready for use. The ends of the poles can be inserted or screwed into the necks O of the knobs; or screws D may project from the neck, which screws are screwed into the ends of the pole.
To fasten the screws D in the neck, the head of the screw is placed into the neck, and a 0 quantity ofmetal composition, such as the knob is made of, is cast into the neck and around the head of the screw, as shown at E, thus holding the screw in place securelyin the neck. Poleknobs of the most elaborate designs can 5 thus be made very easily, and designs that cannot be executed in stamped, spun, or hammered work can easily be cast.
Having thus described myinvention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. As an improved article of manufacture,
a curtain-pole knob cast in metal or metal composition, and having its exterior surface metalplated, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. The combination, with a cast-metal curtain-pole knob, A, having a neck, 0, of the screw D, having its head held in the neck, and of the metal E, cast around the head of the screw within the neck, substantially as herein shown and described.
DAVID B. OLMSTEAD.
