UNITED STATES PATENT QFEIGE;
PERRY A. PEER, OF OOMSTOGK, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT lN- BARN DO OR FASTENINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 176,893, dated May 2, 1876; application filed March 21, 1876.
for sustaining the shocks and wear of a heavy barn-door, while said hook is pivoted in a strong stand or base, adapted to be attached to the side of a barn, and supportthe' hook outsideof the battens of the siding, so that when the door swings open it will strike the nose-of the hook and swing it back, so as to pass the hook-nose and strike a strongarm projecting beyond the pivot, and thereby swing the hook so as to engage and secure Figure 1 is a top view of my improved barndoor fastening, and Fig. 2 is a side eleyation.

, and described.
A is the hook, of strong cast-iron, or it may be of Wrought-iron, if preferred, having the beveled catch-nose B and the curved arm G, and being pivotedat D to the stand or base E, which is attached to the side of the barn, to hold the hook in the right position for receiving the door F, as shown in Fig. 1, when it swings open. The base, also, has a stop at G, to prevent the hook from swinging back too far to be opened by the door.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A springless automatic fastening for barndoors, consisting of but two castings, one being a pivoted hook, A D, having in front the broad beveled catch-nose B, and at the rear a curved arm, 0, while the other is a stand, E, having the stop G, all substantially as shown PERRY A. PEER.
