Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
ALEXANDER HANNA, OF DOVER, KENTUCKY.
IMPROVEMENT IN DOOR-CHECKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,1 15, dated January 21, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER HANNA, of Dover, in the county of Mason and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and Improved Door Stop and Holder, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists of a double hooked plate pivoted to a bracket projecting from the base or mop board, and so arranged as to receive the edge of the door between them when it swings back, and to swing back a little with it and drop into a notch, by which the door will be prevented from striking against the plaster and held from swinging shut. My invention also consists in having this bracket jointed together near the base-plate to swing up and be supported out of the way of sweeping the floor, 800., when required.
Figure 1 is a top view of a door and my improved stop and holder, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the stop and holder.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents the double hooked or notched.
plate, and B the bracket, to which it is piv oted. This plate has one hook-shaped piece,
' C, for acting on the rear side of the door and another, D, for acting on the front side. The latteris shorter than the former, so that when adjusted as represented in dotted lines in the drawing, the door will pass it so as to be locked by it to prevent swinging shut after striking against 0 and pushing plate A back as far as it is allowed to go, when it strikes against the shoulder E, which looks the door from swinging back against the wall, and at the same time it drops behind shoulder F and locks against swinging shut. These parts 0 and D will be armed with India-rubber pads or knobs G to prevent injuring the door.
I propose to joint the bracket B as shown at H, so that it can be turned up against the side of the wall, when required, out of the way of sweeping, &c.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent l. The notched or double hooked plate A with arms 0 and D pivoted to the bracket B, and fitting into arecess between the shoulders E and F and arranged relatively to the door, substantially as specified.
2. The bracketB jointed at H, as described and arranged, for swinging up against the wall carrying with it the notched plate A, substantially as specified.
ALEXANDER HANNA.
