Description
W. H. PHIPPS.
Door-Securers.. N0. 144,223. l Patented Nov. 4,1873.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM II. PHIPPs, 0E PCQUCNCCK, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN OORSECURERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.144,22'3, dated November 4, 1&73; application filed October 6, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WM. H. PHIPIs, of Poquo-v nook, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented an Improved Travelers DoorlLock, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, where- Figure l is a side view of the saine applied to a door, but not locked. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the same locked. Fi g. 3 is a top view of the lock.
This is a little apparatus, enabling one to lock a door without other means.
The letter a indicates a knuckle-shaped Inetallic piece, preferably cast metal, with a slot iu the upper side, in which lie and operate the spear b and the lever c. The lever c is pivoted 4within, and to the piece a by the pin c', and the lever is also pivotedto the spear b by the pin b', so that the spear is moved up and down by the swinging of the lever. One end of the piece a has a lip, a', ttt'ng under the edge of the bottom of the door. The piu d keeps the spear from rising unduly.
The device is placed in position, relative to the door and oor, as shown in Fig. l, and then, by pulling over the 4lever c, as seen in Fig. 2, the spear-point is driven into the floor, and the door securely locked.
I claim as my invention- The combination of the knuckle a, spear b, and lever c, all constructed and operating substantially as described.
VILLIAM II. PHIPPS.
Ttnesses NVM. E. SIMoNDs, JOHN POLLITT.
